Possibly asked before, but are you calling your FILs 'Mom&Dad' after you're married?

Original post by Becca2010

I'd rather rip of my own head and have you girls vomit down my gaping neck hole.

Besides, I already have ONE set of parents, so let's keep it that way.

becca, you know you are going to call them 'mama' and 'baba' = greek words lol.......dont deny itttttttttt

I'd seriously rather die a slow painful death. Just talking to them sometimes makes me want to take the wrong end of a letter opener to my jugular.

i only have one DAD and i would like to keep it that way. i dunno what i should be calling them... i call them aunt/uncle (as i always call any older person anyway. it's a cultural thing)

Nope. I've called them by their first names forever and I can't see calling them 'mom and dad,' especially since I have my own 'mom and dad.'

I call them by their first names but I dont ever really address them .. and in emails if Im emailing the mom about the dad I use Dad .. and vice versa .. When FH sister got married they said to her DH Okay so you can either call us by our first names or use Dad and Mom but no more Mr and Mrs BS ... hopefully I'll get the same speech so I can let them make the decision

I called my Inlaws Jeanette and Bob. I told my MIL I could not call anyone else my but my mother (my mother is deceased) She totally understood.

On the flipside, my father has requested that my DH call my father 'Pop', so dumb. Although, it was funny yesterday because it was my father's birthday and my DH sang to him on the phone the happy birthday song using 'pop'. I think it's ridiculous but whatever.

The moment I got engaged I called them mom and dad.

I remember the call. They knew he was proposing that night. So on the way home we made all the calls.

I remember saying to them 'Im sure your ok with it, but I would LOVE to call you mom and dad'.

They cried, I cried, we all cried :)

Good stuff. ok. Must finish stuff. Getting married in 3 days!

Nope.. I'm not calling my FMIL mom.

But I can see FH calling my mom 'mom' down the road.

Sadly his mom passed away a few years ago. And as life has its way, we are left with his scrooge of a father. So no he barely gets acknowledged at all. Sad but true :/

No, my mom calls her in-laws by the first names and spends almost everyday with them! I just feel weird doing it.

I call them by Mom and the Armenian for Dad (and when talking to FMIL about him, we say dad in english. don't know why)

but i call them by first names too...

all of their siblings I refer to as the armenian word for whatever aunt or uncle they are, so why not them too? and the grandma, too!!!

I actually call his mom 'mom' already.. Never thought I would but it just somehow rolled off my tongue one day and stuck.

HIs dad, I never address by name, lol...just never worked.

I call them mom and dad already. My parents call each others parents as mom and dad (well when my grandpa's were still alive) so its something I grew up with and I get along with his parents for the most part. What fh is going to call my parents is beyond me right now its their first names. It might change since they grew closer in the last few weeks with my grandpa passing.

Not sure, probably will. I love them like my own parents.

Yup, we started the transition a few months ago actually. It's been really weird but I'm getting a little more used to it.
