post bride depression...

i heard on the radio that brides after the wedding are usually depressed for 3 months because they have nothing to do with thier time becuase they are so used to be the center of attention and busy planning the wedding. Im sure i wont be depressed ill be relieved and ready for my next chapter.... bring it on!

I knew a bride that had it... not a close friend at all.. just a former coworker.

she was in therapy for months, instead of travelling the world with him, as planned (he even retired to travel with her).

She actually made him plan ANOTHER wedding WITH her because she was so depressed that she felt she MISSED her entire wedding taking pictures the whole time!!!

Guess what? They ended up getting divorced...

i kind of understand it- there is always a let down after a big event - i even feel a little sad after christmas, or weddings that i am a part of - all that planning then all of a sudden its over - its kind of anticlimactic!

BUT i think that happens bc we get caught up in teh wedding more than the marriage sometimes! hopefully i will be as excited for the next 50 years as i am for that one important day!

well since i already got married i can safely say from experience that there's abit of a wedding planning withdrawal experienced AFTER the day....

i definitely feel like i got so much more time on my hand and feel i need another diversion.

some women decide to go right into planning for a baby, others decorating their new home, while others look for another way of spending all their free time... taking dancing, cooking or other types of classes. :)

i wonder if the feeling those depressed women have is anything like breaking up with an SO? hm....

Thats because many brides spend so much time focusing on preparing for a 'wedding' and not a 'marriage'

I had many other things to absorb my time and attention after the wedding. I did not experience this.

I've definitely known some brides who have gotten really depressed after their wedding. I haven't felt one ounce of sadness. I've basically just been glad it's all over and we can finally move on with our lives.

Yeah, our wedding was great, but being married is soooooo much better!

We both felt a bit sad 2 days later as we were traveling to our honeymoon. Then we got over real quick in paradise. I was thankful to have my thoughts back again. I never realized I was constantly planning in my head. My DH said the same thing. He was a great help during the planning process!!

I hear ya!! That's why I want to become a wedding planner. This stuff is so much fun. I just figure after the wedding then I will start tearing the walls down in the house. I'm always starting projects to keep me busy!

My sister actually had it really bad. It was not that she was bored but it was all the change that she was going through. She was depressed to leave home and go to a new home. She missed all of us and her cat that she could not take with her. It was definetly difficult for her but within a few months she did start to feel better. It definetly is something that can happen.

i'm not married yet but i am COUNTING DOWN the days to get my life back!!! just 20 days to go!! i wanna be able to just sit at home doing nothing, study when i have to, play with my dog, hang out with fh without having to do with wedding stuff, and not have to be so busy with wedding planning in general.

Me too! I never experienced one day of the post-wedding blues. Would I do the day over again? Sure. The year and a half of planning? NEVER!!!

Not in the least - I loved it, it was great, it was wonderful, but I knew it was going to be one day (actually, less than a day) of my life, and then the marriage begins.

I was thrilled to get that time back in my life. I was ecstatic never having to call another vendor again - I even dreaded still having to follow up on wedding pics and video - I was like - enough already!!!!

I think people focus too much on the wedding and not what it represents - I am very happy with myself, and usually am the center of attention anyway, whether I'm in a poofy white dress or not....

I had some moments of post bride depression, BUT they were literally just passing moments that happened a very few times. I expected to feel truly sad that my wedding was over, but I felt very content.

I am going to be so happy when planning is over! I doubt I'll be depressed.
