Post office blues

Post office blues

I went to get stamps for my response envelopes today and couldn't because the change in postage is soooo drastic. My response cards are 3 1/2 by 5 inch size, which is TO SMALL to mail. So the post office said they charge 41 cents PLUS an extra 17 cents for handling so it doesn't get lost. They don't even make stamps to cover 58 cents, so they have to run each response card through the machine.

I guess they mean I have to pack the cards in each envelope and then take them apart again when I put them together with my regular invitations........Grrr so annoying. Anybody having this trouble?

That's weird! 3.5x5 is the smallest acceptable 'normal' mailing size per the post office! They should NOT be charging you extra!

If you do pay the extra, I would do it this way:

Take all your response envelopes to the post office to be run through the machine and stamped.

Go home, stuff your invitations with the now-stamped response envelopes.

Go back to the post office to get the invitation envelope stamped and mailed out.

This is correct here is the link to the post office site where it says the smallest acceptable piece of mail
USPS envelope sizing

MIne are 3 1/2 x 5 as well and I do not intend on giving them anymore postage than necessary!

Ok so mine is 3.5 by 5 and I do not have anymore money to spend so I would be a little upset if I have to pay the additional 17 cents. I just went to the USPS website and it says that 3.5 by 5 is not subject to a 17 cent surcharge. Check on the website. I think the person who told you this made a mistake
Go to www.usps.com, click on calculate postage, then click on Calculate Domestic Postage, click on letter and then put in sample zipcodes eg from 10027 to 44146, then click on the radio button beside letter and then click continue.
When it comes up click on the '?' besideFirst-Class Mail® Letter .
This will allow you to put in your dimensions and see if it is subject to the 17 cent charge.

Good luck

That's strange I was under the impression that size was acceptable with regular postage.

I agree I used all 41 stamps for mine and they were fine no issue. I did buy the stamps and put them on myself. I have been getting them back with no issues.
