post office santa

so my company every year - does that program where they get 'dear santa' letters from the post office and you buy that child a gift.

well every year i do it - but i dont look for the kids that want PS3 and a pony - i look for kids that seem like they really need a gift. ( i just like humble children)
so this years broke my heart - it was a mom writing in that she lost her job and wants to give her 8 yr old a great christmas - and puts that he needs clothes. and if i could please send her a goft card to pathmark or shoprite she would appreciate it.

so i take this letter - and than i read the sizes she asked for - and now i am weary about it - reminder the boy is 8 years old.

pants - 34
sweatshirts - XL
sweaters - XL
shoes - 4

???? now matty d is 6'3 and over 200+ and these are sizes i would buy him.
i cant help but think these clothes cannot be for the child.

what do you think?

The shoes sound like the only legit size.

so what should i do?

i was thinking buy a pair of shoes for the kid and a toy and mail it off. i also think i will buy a gift card to pathmark - the way i eat and waste food i would have some set of balls to tell someone no who is asking....

is this fine? or too ittle? too much??

i dont like the thought of this woman lying - but i also dont like the thought of this HUGE child going w/o clothes....

Maybe do the shoes, one sweatshirt & the GC to the grocery store. I definetly wouldn't get everything.

Ok, the pants size really doesn't seem right, but you never know. For the sweatshirt I'd get an XL in the BOYS department. This way if the 8 y/o is legit then you're doing good and if the mom is lying then she's screwed bc the shirt will be too small.

ETS: It's really sweet of you to do this every year!!!
