Post Office Warning

Post Office Warning

Hey Ladies,

Just wanted to share my experience with those ladies who have yet to mail their invitations. I went to my local post office to have my invites weighed and was told they needed .78 cents in postage.
Out of fear of having some if not all returned for insufficient postage, I went to a post office in the city to double check. They were weighed again and I was told that the correct postage is actually $1.22 NOT .78! The girl at my local post office was incorrect. My invites are considered a large envelope. The postal worker actually showed me on the scale what classifies something as a large envelope ( if the envelope passes a specific line on the scale it will need extra postage)

My co-worker is going to take one of my invites to a post office near her house in the Bronx to be tripple sure.....

I was all set to order custom .78 cent stamps from zazzle.com so I am so happy I double checked. I did the math and it would have cost us nearly $500 bucks to remail ( order new envelopes, have them re-addressed with the calligrapher and buy the correct postage) Additionally the invites would have gone out late!

So as a warning, double, tripple and even quadruple check your postage before you mail to avoid returns!

-HTH

Omg that's crazy!! Good thing you went to another post office.I also suggest that if your job has a scale maybe you can weigh them and then go on the USPS.com website and enter the weight and what type of envelope it is and it gives you the postage also.

The same thing happened to me… I actually got 3 different amounts from 3 different post offices.

I just ended up going with the most expensive price they gave me I didn’t want to risk them being returned!

Just an FYI - most invites are considered parcel mail, and a parcel alone is already at least a $1 ... if you go under that it has to be like a one page bendable foldable invite that weigh less... some girls at the post office weigh it as regular mail but you have to tell them its your wedding invite so they know to weigh it differently

OMG now I have to go check. FH took our pocketfold invites to the post office and they told us it was 62 cents (something like that) but I thought that sounded a little low to me... I am going to have him do it again somewhere else.

I had a similar issue with my pocketfolds.. went to a post office in the city where they told me it was .61 cents plus a 20 cent cardboard surcharge-- that they MAY OR MAY NOT charge.. I didnt care forthe wishy washiness .. I mean iw ould have put the extra postage to be safe rather than sorry but didnt feel like spending an extra 50 bucks on postage if i didnt have to. So what i did was take ALL Of my sealed and ready to go invites to a different post office- the one in Manhasset on Plandome Road (much smaller and quieter than the one in the city) and worked with one teller (who was great)-- she told me it would only cost .61 cents. i bought my stamps there and FH and I put the stamps on the invitations there , hand cancelled them ourselves and then the teller put the invitations on the 1pm truck.. The whole process took less than an hour and we were sure they went thorugh without having to over pay.

my pocketfolds were $1.10 each to mail give or take a few cents

what i didnt find out until after was my rsvp envelopes should have had .64 cent stamps and they went out with .44 . all because theyre square.

ive been getting them all back but theres stickers on them that say 'postage due'

im fearful some people will get them sent back to them and i wont get my rsvps

What exactly is hand canceling? Is it when you manually stamp the post mark as opposed to running it through a machine? Also if I take all my invites stamped and ready to go can I request hand canceling? what is the benefit?

thanks!

Re: Post Office Warning

yea .. my dad weighed and measured it and looked it up online and mine were supposed to be $1.05 each...

however, my post office told me that i only needed 78 cents for each.. so i went with that and they all went through fine and i had no problems

Re: Post Office Warning

true
need to check
i went on monday got the quote of $1.39
however the stamps coem up to 1.43 (59+42+42)
i'm using the old stamps... post ofice told me it's fine as long as I come up to a required postage for my invites. and i'm actually very happy about this, becasue i like the old stamps much better (they have hearts on them)
i also mailed one invite to my dad the same day to make sure it will be delived. he received it the NEXT day

you gotta double check everything

FH just went to three different post offices and they said .61 for the invites and .44 for the rsvp cards were fine... We have pocketfolds as well.

i would just put extra postage to be safe.... the few extra bucks will end up saving you tons in the end if they were to get sent back again....

i had extra on mine so i knew i wasnt going to run into any issues.... besides having some sent back for wrong addresses and even 1 for no reason at all
