It all depends. I registered right away for a few things because people wanted to get gifts for the engagement party. We also got gifts for Christmas. The way I see it is the more I get now, the less we have to buy later. I just registered for kitchen and dining stuff - not bed, bath etc. because I don't know where I'll be living. ALso, some of the appliances I haven't registerd for yet because they might come out with newer things - Like I need a bigger kitchenaid stand mixer than 6 qt!!

We registered right away also, b/c family members wanted to get us gifts. You can also add and take items away on line, so I don't see any harm in starting it early.
I know, i got four place settings already....i am always taking it out and looking at it!! it was actually my FH that picked it out which is the funniest part.. i never though it would be him who picked our china!
