When trying to open a tightly sealed jar, if banging the top of it with a utensil doesn't help, I put a rubber band around the lid and then its easy to open.

2 great inventions - swifter and clorox wipes! Great for easy cleanups. I also like the pledge dust mitts. I hate cleaning so I look for anything that makes my life easier.
Re: Post your household cleaning tips or tips in general.
Sue...I take the jar and bang the lid on the counter...and it usually works (learned that from working at Friendly's and the new ketchup bottles)
if that doesn't work there are these rubber circles that a lot of public officials will give away at election time (I'm sure they are in stores too)...they help to grip
if that doesn't work...my parents gave me a 'gahoolie' it clamps on and NEVER fails!!! We've had it since the 70's and it looks it...I think my mom picked a few up at garage sales...

donna...I actually like the swiffer duster rather than the mitt...

I use a rubber glove to open jars with tight lids.
I love the clorox wipes for quick clean ups in the bathroom & kitchen. And the windex ones are great for picture frames - no more worrying about cleaning fluid rolling too fast and possibly ruining the picture.
We use two sponges in the kitchen sink - one to wash dishes & one to wipe counters & spills with. The one I use to wipe up spills is always green so DH can keep it straight green=ground.
Erica - I just tried the swiffer duster and I love it! I would never dust before (DH's job...LOL) now I don't mind.
We use those plastic lner bags in the litter pan - love them!! Virtually no mess changing the litter.
That CLR bathroom cleaner (yellow/orange bottle) does wonders in the shower - spray it on, rinse it off, no streaks and helps when I get to the tub cleaning part.
Re: Post your household cleaning tips or tips in general.
heres a nother...I keep a spray bottle with a water/bleachsolution...and I use it to spray down anything that I use with raw meat...
Christine...I never dusted b/c of allergies...but the swiffer is amzing...it has not affected me at all...
we also have two sponges...one for cleaning...one for pet related incidents...lol
and yes...I don't know how or why I didn't use liner bags before...they make life so much easier!!!

When you put tomato sauces in a plastic container you get that red kind of dyed look to it right?? Before you put the tomato sauce in, spray it with PAM and no dying

Ajax powder cleaner is my favorite for a really clean tub and also for the stove top.
Re: Post your household cleaning tips or tips in general.
I just recently saw a Good Housekeeping report on dishwasher cleaners...adn they found that the best ones were not the fancy ones (which were actually some of the worst), but the best was the powder from Walmart!!

I've also heard that Efferdent will take out stains from your coffee and tea mugs. I'm going to try to buy some later and try it out.

Re: Post your household cleaning tips or tips in general.
I keep one squirter in the bathroom with windex, another with tilex...so I can do quick clean ups. Was worried that Julianne may be crawling soon so Id have to get rid of them...maybe the WIPES are the answer? (easier to lock up too!) maybe I cna make up my own and be a cheap-ee .
baking soda and vinigar and hot water to flush out drains
clorox stain out...better than shout

If you rub in shaving cream on your bathroom mirror (rub it in really good) it prevents the mirror from fogging up when the shower is on

Take a dryer sheet (new or old) and wet it, use it to clean the soap film off glass shower doors.

feb...I have to try that one...
my mother always had a sweegie (sp?) in the shower and we would have to dry the walls after we took a shower to help fight the stains and soap scum...

Another dryer sheet use...if you have stuck on food in a pan, fill it will cold water and put a new dryer sheet in it. Let it sit for a while. Food will wipe right off.
