Postage for Square Envelopes

Postage for Square Envelopes

Are square envelopes (say 5 1/2') more expensive to mail? Even if they are not heavy?

Weigh them!!

I mailed my e invites and they were .37!

Re: Postage for Square Envelopes

ALL square envelopes (no matter how light) are extra to mail.

So if something is less and an ounce, I believe its 49 cents to mail (where a rectangle would be 37 cents). But once you go over the ounce mark, it costs the same for a square as a rectangle.

So since my invites were square but were heavy - the actual invite didnt cost more to mail b/c of the shape. But the RSVP was also square and DID cost more.

Yep, they'll cost more, regardless of weight. Just bring a sample to the PO before you put on all your stamps.

YES - - I did that with my engagement invites and swore not to do it again. Go directly to the post office where you're sending them out from. They all make-up different costs (scam). A normal 37 cent envelope turms out to be 49 cents for the square envelopes - - and they don't have a stamp for the difference. They wanted me to stick 4 UGLY stamps on 1 little envelope. I ended up using 1 55 cent stamp. That was an aggrevating day.

FYI: There are 49 cents stamps. If you plan ahead, you can get the post office to get them for you.

Well according to the Post Office in Rockefeller Plaza the cost was 48 cents and they didn't have the stamps. I went to the post office by me and they told me 49 cents and they didn't have those stamps either. So if you're planning on sending them with one stamp, call at least 1 week in advance to see if they can get them for you. I spent literally 2 hours in post offices - - it wasn't fun.

I went to the post office and they said the square size does not weigh more as long as it weighs more than 1 oz. So for me, the entire invite is .60cents. However my reply card, which is also a square, is .37 cents plus .12 cents for the size.

See that's what I mean - - the post offices make up their own rules. I was told they charge more (it's a service fee) because the feeder has to be set for that specific size. Your best bet is go to the post office you're sending them out from and see what they tell you. Good Luck.

San: I think we are all saying the same things in different ways.

THe extra 12 cents for standard mail (no more than 1oz) is because they cant use the regular machines. With mail that weighs more, they cant use the standard machines anyway so they dont charge more.

OK - as long as we all agree:) I just had a really hard time that day and after my experience the mention of square invites makes me break out in hives!

I think we all agree. The entire invite, the heaviest, weighing more than one oz. will be .60 cents or more possibly but it won't require EXTRA .12. the small er square response card will. We all agree.

It ****s. Money down the drain

My invitation envelopes are 7x7. Pretty big. I went to the post office the other day to mail them, and they cost $.60 for the outer plus the $.37 for the inner. Just made the limit for the 'beautiful' LOVE stamp.
