i went to the post office yesterday and asked about the increase! i almost had a breakdown because they told me they offically don't know anything, but she did say the new stamps will come out one month before the increase.

I went to the post office last week and they said they had no idea when it was going to go up!

Oh well, my invites are going out in a month and I only put 39 cents on the response cards.

Hope that is not a problem

ugh what a pain in the butt...I wanted to have my invites all assembled first week of April! These invites aren't exactly easy to put together either!

Thanks for the info though!!!

This is from the 3/19/07 press release on the US Postal Service website:

'By resolution, the Board of Governors has today set May 14, 2007, as the effective date of the changes in rates and fees for all classes except for Periodicals. As explained below, unique circumstances have caused the Board to delay implementation of the Periodicals changes until July 15, 2007.'

I don't see anything on the website about when the new stamps will become available. I have to go the Hicksville P.O. today, so I'll ask them when they think they will have them. Of course, it's my luck that I need to send out my invitations the first week of May, at the one rate, but the RSVP's are due in June at the new rate. Hopefully the new wedding stamps will be available by mid-April so I can put those on the reply envelopes.

The clerks at the P.O. do not have definite info yet. In fact, the clerk at the counter did not even know that the increase was official! Fortunately, another clerk next to him overheard my question, and said that they 'should get the new stamps next month' but did not know exactly when. I then asked if the new wedding stamps could be purchased separately (e.g. the outer envelope at the old rate and the 41 cent new stamp for the reply envelope), and they said they should be because you don't have to buy them in pairs now.

Re: Postage increase...

Can you just imagine...the postal workers must HATE increases...especially during WEDDING SEASON! Can you imagine the amount of brides that come to them all freaked out asking questions?

Watch out...it's postal increase season AND wedding season!

Well I'll be happy if they move it to July, but it s*cks for any bride that has an RSVP date in July or August! I don't understand why they just cant create a $.41 stamp early so that we could just buy them just in case! I would rather pay an extra $.02 per stamp then stress over my RSVPs not getting to me! The peace of mind is worth the extra cost!
