Re: Postage Stamp Warning
Thanks for the warning! I would have never thought that a post offices differ in prices. I thought that would be one thing I wouldn't have to shop around for, I guess I was wrong.

Re: Postage Stamp Warning
I read the newspaper daily, watch tv news progams daily and listen to tnews radio daily and have not heard about post offices becoming privatized, and that is something that WOULD make it into various media outlets.
I just now checked the US Postal Service website (http:///www.usps.gov), and it makes no mention anywhere about privatization.
The website, does however list the prices for first-class mail according to weight. here it is:
First-Class Mail Prices Quick, affordable service for your basic mailing needs.
The least expensive, most immediate option for mailing postcards, letters, and large envelopes 13 ounces or less Prices based on shape and weight
Postcards - $0.27 Size limits:
Minimum: 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick Maximum: 6 inches long by 4-1/4 inches high Additional postage required for larger postcards Letters Weight Not Over Price 1 ounce $0.42 2 ounces $0.59 3 ounces $0.76 3.5 ounces $0.93
Size limits: - Rectangular; length is the dimension parallel to the address. - At least 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick - No more than 6-1/8 inches high by 11-1/2 inches long by 1/4 inch thick - Up to 3.5 ounces - Surcharge will apply for nonmachinable letter
Size limits: - Rectangular - No more than 12 inches high by 15 inches long by 3/4 inches thick - Must not be rigid and must be uniformly thick (see package prices)
when did this happen, since when is the US postal service privatized? i think it would've been all over the news if this would happen bc it would be a bit of a big deal. Are you sure it wasnt just 2 different wedding stamps? some are $.42 but others are like .59 or 64 so they mightve showed you the different options they have. The difference will be if you have an invitation that weighs more then you'll need the 64 cent stamp to make up for it.

Re: Postage Stamp Warning
My aunt told me that the post offices have been privatized- I'm not 100% sure I trusted her...
but the difference in price was due to the hand stamping- the labor aspect so being privatized makes sense because of that difference but maybe someone just didn't really know the actual labor price... regardless a second opinion was very valuable to me and I wanted to pass along the experience!

Hand stamping does not require a labor charge. It is at the discretion of the post office to hand stamp or not. You should not have been charged extra for labor.

Re: Postage Stamp Warning
I got my wedding invitation weighed by two different postal workers to ensure the postage amount they said was correct (just in case the first person was wrong).

Re: Postage Stamp Warning
I think it could be partly because they added so many new rules last few years about size that the employees are confused or interpret things differently.
I went to several different offices while doing invites and got different answers also just because of intereptation. example. I used wax seals and depending on thickness they said it could cost more for surcharge. when I actually mailed them, they slid it thru template and if it fit no xtra charge. now my seals were thin - - if they were borderline going thru who knows what they would have done - - given me a break or said more $$$ pls.
and 1 office I use just doesn't have a clue.
