I just went to the post office to buy stamps for my invites.
My invites have a bow on them, but other than that I think they're pretty light. The woman told me that it was heavier and because it has a bow, it has to be hand fed and would cost about 81 cents per invite. Does this sound right? My invites are regular 5x7 envelopes, and really I've mailed regular letters that were heavier.
I know 81cents doesn't sound bad, but multiply that by a lot of invites, and I'm at the point where I'm spending tons of money each week on random wedding crap, I'm feeling very poor and stressed!

Re: postage stamps
new postage regs go by not only size, but thickness of the envelope. So it is possible that the bow is pushing it past the standard allowable thickness.

Re: postage stamps
you can try going to a second post office to see if they tell you a diff number.
some girls have had that happen to them.
don't stress - it's only like $35 difference on postage betweek the regular stamps and the 81 cent ones .... in the end (for 100 invites). That's not SO much (considering everything)

Re: postage stamps
It goes by weight not by size, so it sound right to me. You should be OK.

Re: postage stamps
Hm, I also thought letters went by weight, so I was wondering if the post office tried to pull a fast one. Oh well I better put all the postage on the last thing I'd want is all of the envelopes returned! Thanks!

Re: postage stamps
They go by weight if they are thin enough. If they are too thick (I want to say 1/4 inch or something like that) then they cost more. They have a test slot they put it through and if it doesn't fit, it will cost more.

Re: postage stamps
Just an FYI...it goes by weight AND size AND thickness. I went to several post offices in NY and NJ and same story at all. We had to put extra postage on ours because of the large size. Also, you can / should hand stamp your invites yourself....

Re: postage stamps
Mine had a bow too which did make it slightly thicker but i was only charged $0.61. I went to 2 places. And checked 2 times in 1 post office.
