Posture

Does anyone have any suggestions on techniques or excercises to improve posture?
I've noticed that I tend to slouch a lot and it is quite unattractive!

Yes. You have to do exercises that address your trunk muscles (back and abs). The stronger the muscles are in your trunk, the straighter you will stand. Proper back exercises will emphasize back extension and minimize spinal flexion. Examples would be pulling your shoulders back, kind of like so that your chest sticks out, like if you were rowing a boat. Another good one is to lie on the floor or a mat or something, face down, with your arms down along your side so that your hands are by your hips. Then lift your chest up off the floor using your back.

Also, the old book on the head while you are walking around will increase your awareness. I know that sounds ridiculous but it works!

Yoga, yoga, and more yoga. You could take some classes, get a book, or a dvd. Trust me you will notice results probably within the first few sessions, HTH

I agree, yoga really helps. I've also heard good things about pilates, although I haven't done that myself. I love my yoga class!

I have a fitness ball and use a DVD that is put out by that company that does the Dummies books (it's called 'Fitness Ball Workout for Dummies'). It's supposed to strengthen your abs and back and they say it will improve your posture.
