OH controversial! LOL...I think for medical purposes LEGAL! I had an uncle with Cancer and have an Aunt with MS, both of whom use//used it and was prescribed by a Dr., why would a Dr do that if he did not believe in the pain reducing qualities of it....Now as far as everyday, non medical use...hmmm...I will admit to not seeing anything 'wrong' with it, it is as much a drug ( in MY opinion) as Alchol...and I feel that your more likley to get hurt by say drinking and driving, then driving 'high' BUT I also think that a lot of people who smoke do it a LOT and if legal could be a problem, well actually for those who do it, they are doing it regardless right? Do I think that their usage will increase if legal...not at all, I just think that I would not want my child ( even an adult one) to be a 'pot head' and be exposed to that.... I know I'm not making much sense....Ok...I will say my final answer is ' I dont know' ????

Re: pot
I think if it's medicalyes, but otherwise, for recreational purposes, I don't agree with it. I had a brother who had a huge problem with it, and it nearly ruined his life and killed him, so I can't, in good conscience, say that I agree with it. Then again, i had an uncle die from alcholholism, but that's legal..... i think it's just too close to home for me

Re: pot
We have enough problems with alcohol being legal...i don't see a reason to add to that..
Plus, legalizing pot can open the door for other drugs to be legalized....where do you then draw the line????
Like i said, don't we have enough problems in this world ETA... for medicinal usage..by all means use it.
If people could guarentee 100% that innocent people would be safe, by all means legalize anything...but let's face it ...it is never going to happen..

Can yo imagine if you could tax that stuff? How much money the government would make.
I think it should be legal and I'll tell you why. There are definitely people who have problems with pot. Its illegal, and people still use it, and abuse it. What difference would legalizing it do? I don't think people don't use it b/c its illegal. Like smoking or drinking, the people who don't smoke pot don't do it, because they don't want to.
lets get out of this deficit, tax the hell out of it, and make it legal.

ok here is MY storie about it....if it was made legal, then yes the big cigarette companys would be the ones growing it, selling it , and we would be paying a lot for it......BUT there would be less people in jail for selliing pot with our tax money paying for them to be in jail....now do i want my little maiah smoking pot,.......hmmm, no i dont, will i lie to her and say i dont,......hmmmm... no i wont lie to her it is good for some people and not for others, i think if they have laws saying (like drinking) if you drive on it....well you get a expensive ticket, but in your home.......who cares....do we really want the goverment telling us what to do.....lets get rid of the defacite(sp) grow it and sell it.....plus little growers will always be there, as long as there is a WANT for good pot.......just my thought

Well then why stop at pot...Let's just legalize all drugs and really make some money??? Personally i think that if you break the law and have to go to jail...then take my tax dollars...by all means TAKE it. It is when MY tax dollars that go towards building a new Jets stadium that kinda pisses me off, things like that bother me. And can anyone guarentee that people will 'use it' at home??? PUH LEEZE...We can't do it with alcohol why would you think it would be different with other substances? Just this morning i was reading about a dad driving his family around intoxicated and a 14 year old who was hit by a drunk driver, oh and one more but i for got the details.... Just my 13 cents ETA...people who are in an altered state of mind have a tendency to make very poor decisions..decision i nor my family cares to ever be involved in!

Re: pot
under that argument, then alcohol should be illegal too.
ETA- Pot originally became illegal as an agreement with the lumber industry. They were concerned that hemp would take the place of lumber for paper and other products. Just something to think about.

Re: pot
I'm all for the legalization of pot. Comparing pot with other drugs is simply foolish in my opinion. If you researched the topic you would find many medical and other reports that not only support the drug for medicinal purposes, but also deny it's ill effects as being anything worse than cigarettes. The same can not be said for cocaine or heroine. In fact, alcohol is probably worse for you than smoking could ever be. I truly believe that more people presently abuse alcohol than would abuse pot if it were legalized. Like someone else mentioned, the people who abuse pot would do so whether it was legal or not and I don't believe that the legalization would cause an epidemic of potheads. JMHO

Pot is used for medicinal purposes...
Are you really going to say the pot is not a mind altering drug????? Because i have to say in my experiences it certainly is....It is addictive and to be honest i do believe it is abused just as much as alcohol.
Question 1....how is the law going to come up with a legal limit to the amount of pot you are going to be allowed to smoke and not smoke when operating a vehicle?
Question 2...How are you going to tax the average pot man who buys pot plants, grows it in his backyard and sells it? How is that gong to be taxed? Because if i was going to buy it, i would buy it from the guy who will sell it to me cheaper than these 'big coporationss'?

This I dont agree with....Pot is much worse then cigerrettes in its mind altering. When you smoke a cigerrette you can drive and relaize you are driving correctly...who hasn't ( well at least I have ) seen the pot smoker doing 25 miles an hr and think they are driving perfectly fine( amusing but true!) or theose who get the 'munchies' and throw down a six pack ort a couple burgers to satisfy...a ciggerette curbs your appetite actually and the clinical info on the lungs damage by pot is that smoking just a few hits of a joint( I guess whatever is considered average) is equal to smoking 4 cigerrettes in a row...So its immediate result on the lungs is harsh. I think pot smoking makes you lethargic and less likely to 'get up and go' so to speak.... The bottom line, I dont care if its smoked, will admit to smoking it, will admit to knowing Tons of people who do and I do not judge anyone on what they do...I just think leaglizing it would cause more problems then its worth....if people want to smoke it...go right ahead..I think they will anyway, legal or not, and while I dont think that legalizing would increase the amount of people who are users, Im nto for the addtional problems it would incur.... Also, many of you seem to forget this is not a question of whther pot is harmful , more so then anything else but really about the bottom line that its usage is VERY widespread and due to that should or shouldnt it be legalized?

I never said it wasn't a mind altering drug, but I think it's effects are weak in comparison to alcohol. I personally don't feel it is addictive, at least not physically, though I would agree it can be mentally addictive for some. As far as it being abused, it very well may be, but I don't think that level would either increase or decrease if it was legalized.
The legal limit wouldn't be based on a point system the way alcohol is, it would be based on a per person basis. I think a system invloving physical tests would be sufficient. I don't know if you would agree or not, but I would feel safer in a car with someone who is stoned than someone who is drunk.
Taxes would be tricky, yes, but taxes are tricky even now, that's why we have the IRS and auditors. People would certainly be able to buy from the neighborhood dealer, but then again people buy cartoons of cigarettes on line, so what th'e difference? There are still enough packs sold in stores, as there would be pot.
I hope your not getting upset with me, I just like debating and I believe in what I'm saying.

Re: pot
I too think alcohol is actually worse, BUT why add something else to the mix? Dont we have enough uncontrolled problems with alcohol, why add something else to the mix? How would people be buying this pot anyway? At 7-11 rolled up like cigerettes?

I'm confused by the poll .. it asks legal or illegal .. than you have to choose yes or no .. yes or no to being legal, .. or yes or no to being illegal???

And like cigarettes don't cause enough health problems???
Pot may have it's medicinal purposes, but it's silly to think that would be the leading use if it were legalized. The 'medicinal' reasoning is a solid foundation for a shaky proposition. Generally, there is always something good to be found in just about everything.
And no, I have never done drugs, so maybe I'm biased.

That would be my FH who made this poll...and I'm sure he meant 'yes' or 'no' to it being legal. My intuition tells me that maybe he had partaken in illegal activity before writing this poll!

Re: pot
p.s i'm not making light of a serious topic, but in reality it will NEVER in our lifetime be legal, we all know that, so let the people do what they want and lets focus on our own individual morals...no amount of 'outrage' public or private will ever stop people from smoking cigerettes or pot or stop drinking alcohol, so While I may have an opinion, it gets me no-where, I'd rather focus on my own family and teaching them what's right, acceptable and safe....we should all do that ( be it in favor of smoking pot or not)
