When I started looking into hair and make-up, I asked my mom to inquire with my old hair dresser (who she still goes to). The woman e-mailed me and in her original e-mail never mentioned that she would come to the house. She said that because the salon is closed on Sunday, she would do it in her studio in her home. Strike 1! I attempted to call her twice, but couldn't get in touch with her. I sent her a second e-mail just to let her know that I tried to reach out to her. She replied: 'Hi , sorry I have not called, been sooo busy . Jacquie don't worry I will work with you there is plenty of time . Guess what? What a small world is my client & she is going to be in your wedding . Call me anytime , no problem.'
To me, and according to my BM, she made it sound like she was definitely doing my hair and make-up for my wedding! Strike 2! In the meantime, I'm searching around and setting up trials with other people. I've never been 100% thrilled with the way she did my hair while I was her client and I certainly have NO idea how she would do it for a wedding... and completely clueless about what she has in mind for the make-up part.
While she might give me a deal, I don't want to feel obligated to use her and I don't know how to proceed. I'm hesitant to even try to reach out to her again about setting up a trial because I don't want to be in the position to turn her down.
What would you do?!
I should also add that my mom was giving me an attitude when I mentioned that I might not want to use her. Now I don't know if my mom led her to believe that I *want* her. I don't want to have a fight with my mom about this since it was MY suggestion in the first place to inquire with the hair dresser.

Well it's a little more complicated than that because my mom is still her client and is friendly with her outside of the salon. In other words, she's not a random vendor that I inquired with.

Re: Potential Problem - LONG
I had booked my regular hair person to do our hair and makeup the day of; without doing a trial.
I did a trial of both and HATED my makeup; so I went and did a trial somewhere else and booked on the spot.
I was very upset to talk to him about only doing hair; I didn't want him to get offended, etc., etc. So I finally saw him last week, spoke to him and he was fine. For me, I felt better about that, plus I was also honest.
I understand where you are coming from. And added to the fact your mom is friends with her outside of the salon.
First, you have to go with your gut. If you honestly don't feel that she will do your hair the way you want or like the day of, or if you won't be happy the day of, then do book somewhere else.
Second, I'd be upfront and tell her that you were looking for something different, or she didn't give you the vision you wanted and you went with someone else.
I know it ***** considering it's more than a hairdresser, but you want to feel great on your wedding day and part of that starts with how you look. If you're not happy with the way you look, that may pull your mood down.
Good luck!

Just tell your hairdresser that another one of your bridesmaids is also a hairdresser, that she is really excited to do your hair and the other girls' hair, at your house, the day of the wedding, and that you think it would be easier to do it that way for free all together at your house the day of. Tell her you don't want to hurt your friend's feelings about it too... Then find someone else to come to the house and do your hair.
I can give you the contact info for my hairdresser if you want, she's great and travels. But I think that would be an easy way of avoiding more hurt feelings and getting someone you want. But I had the SAME situation with my old hairdresser, who was a friend of my moms too, so I get how it can be uneasy.

i understand... you have to use kids gloves in these situation because of the relationship... just tell her that you need someone to come to you... tell her you cant compromise on that... you have too much stuff to do that day to have to travel or want to travel

Personally I wouldn't go on someone's word of 'you have time, don't worry.' I made this mistake, and 3 months before my wedding, when I called this person to set up a trial, she told me she had vacation plans. I would explain to her that you want to 'shop around' and see what styles you like, and would like to come in for a trial. If she pushes you aside, and tells you it's too soon, move on.

did u ever tell her you wanted a trial? also, she might be assuming since ur mom goes to her, she is doing the hair. honestly, i can see where things might get assumed or mis-communicated. i would email her and tell her that you are trying a few trials with different people and would like to set something up. this way she doesnt assume she is doing it and you can get the trial out of the way.

i think even though they are friendly, stuff like this happens with hair dressers all the time. She'll get over it -- but for you, this doesn't sound worth the aggravation.

The thing is, we never connected to talk! She e-mailed me and told me to call her. I attempted to call her twice and sent her an e-mail telling her I tried to call to which she replied with the e-mail that I quoted in my original post.
I definitely would like to speak with her and set-up a trial, but I want to avoid the assumption that I'm going to use her regardless. I will definitely have to be clear about that!

Yeah I think I will do that. I mean, I've already set-up 1 trial with another hair stylist and make-up artist which is actually 4 months away (saved it for when I'm in my friend's bridal party). I'm thinking I'll do 2-3 trials before deciding.
