ok-i know there are threads on this already but I am sooo confused. I keep going back and forth with Caphalon Stainless Steel and Caphalon Contemporary Non-stick.
I am just learning how to cook and don't have too much experience. the girl at BBB said she would get the nonstick then. do you agree?
then I thought what if I got the stainless and a couple of non-stick.
decisions...decisions...I am so confused! Any help would be appreciated.

Re: pots and pans
I can't say anything about the stainless steel because I've never used them. However, I do have the calphalon non-stick and I love them. I use them all the time.

Re: pots and pans
i have a few of each and i honestly think it really depends on what you are cooking
ie. i would not cook eggs in the stainless steel but i wouldnt cook chicken cutlets in the nonstick

Re: pots and pans
When I went and bought my Calphalon the women in william sonoma told me it depended on what I was cooking. Like others said, if you want to make eggs, you use non-stick. If you want to sear/cook meat you use stainless steel or some other not non-stick.

the woman told me to use stainless.. the chemicals in the non stick pans can come off and contaminate your food.

totally agree. i would never get nonstick! they let out toxins. they even say it on their warning lables 'can do damage to small birds'-so silly but its really crazy, if the toxins can kill a bird what can it do to a newborn!?!?!? and you are only supposed to cook with them on a reallly low flame. ps once the teflon cuts, wears, gets damaged throw the pan out, b/c its really dangerous to use.

That is true but if you get a good brand the teflon will not break off for a very long time. It is the cheap pots that are really bad

The woman from all clad told me this, and All Clad is far from beign cheap... Plus most Cafelon or All Clad or any good pots come with a lifetime warrenty, so Im sure people will have them for a very long time

Re: pots and pans
stainless steel! non-stick wear out after a few years. if youre looking for pots to last your life get the steel. if you want to buy new pots every few years (every 5-7 i'd say) get non-stick

I like All-Clad SS. Just watch out with non stick pots and pans, the teflon seems to peel after a while and causes cancer

I went with all-clad, too. I love to cook, and my mom is an amazing cook, and I'm friends with two chefs and they all use all-clad at home. I def would only get one non-stick pan for eggs, or a non-stick griddle for pancakes, otherwise it can become dangerous and if the coating cracks the pan is useless.
Goodluck! HTH!

Kohls has 'Food Network' pans and they looked really nice. Anyone ever use them?

Re: pots and pans
We got the Calphalon Contemporary Non Stick and I love them. I'm a beginner cook and I love the no-mess of the non stick. Super easy to clean too.
You definitely have to use the right utensils though - you do NOT want to scratch the inside of the non stick pans. I do have one stainless steel pot to use for other things, but I personally love the ease of the non stick set.
