What set did you put on your registry? What is a good name? I love to cook so having a good set of pots and pans is essential for me. I am just not sure as to what is considered decent quality today.
Thank you!

Re: Pots and Pans?
you should look them up on consumer reports. We got the ones from Costco becuase they had a great rating and I LOVE them. the reviews are amazing.

Re: Pots and Pans?
All-clad is more of a cooker's pot but calaphon is a very close second and alaphon (sp?) is third.
steer clear of pots and products named after celebrities, they arent good quality and won't last a long time so in turn it's a waste of money.

Re: Pots and Pans?
We put down Calphalon also. My mom said they were good. I have no clue cause I don't cook!
We registered for Calphalon pots and pans. They were expensive, but like good knives, they'll last a looong time.

Re: Pots and Pans?
I was all set to go with All-Clad based on online reviews, etc but because they are so pricey I wanted to check everything out in person first. We went to BBB and I picked up the pots and I found the handles hurt my hands. (I googled 'All Clad handles' and found that a lot of other people feel the same way -- dont know why they wouldn't fix this? )
I know they are supposed to be top-of-the-line and I had talked myself into justifying the extra cost (plus, BBB coupons exclude All-Clad) but I wanted them to be PERFECT. I couldn't justify the price for pots/pans that hurt my hands.
We decided to get the Calphalon Tri-Ply instead. I found the handles more comfortable, the price much better ($399 for a 13pc set vs. $629 for a 10pc set of All-Clad) and the set came with pieces I was excited to use, like the pasta strainer and an extra skillet. We registered for a bunch of add'l pieces too, like the roasting pan, steamer insert, tapas pans (FH wanted to add those ) and then a few Calphalon non-stick as well. The Calphalon set has glass lids, which I think I prefer even though they usually fog up if you are cooking at high heat.
The guy at BBB said the Calphalon is their top seller, and it's just a tiny step below All-Clad. I love to cook but I am not a gourmet chef -- I'm sure they will be a big step up from our current crappy set.
Do some research here and on Amazon (lots of detailed reviews) but before you pick something pricey make sure you check it out in person first. Hope this helps

Re: Pots and Pans?
We got the ALL CLAD set from both our parents and love it. Its awesome. But when we add to it, I buy Calphalon. Honestly, All Clad USED to eb the best hands down but now the other companies are jumping on board copying their style of handle and riveting so they're just as sturdy. Stay away from Circulon. Its sheap. And Analon. But Calphalon is great. (used to work in cookware department YEARS ago.)

All Clad is the best you can get, BUT very expensive. I went with calphalon the contempory 13 piece set.

I do love Calphalon and have a few pieces. But I dont entirely agree with the celebrity pot thing. I am an avid cooker, baker, etc. I have a set of Wolfgang Puck stainless pans (without non-stick) that I LOVE, and would highly recommend to anyone. They are great, easy to clean, and even DH, who is not an avid cooker, cooks in them with no problems.

all-clad people, did you find the handles uncomfortable? is it just something you get used to?
