Ok, I'm standing by my all clad (stainless steel) but I'm agreeing w/ the henkels post- those were what I meant to type. We have both and prefer the henkels- they were a wedding gift that we didn't register for and LOVe them.
I highly recommend the Henckels knives (get the double man, not the single). My mom has had hers since she and my dad got married (31 years ago), and she swears by them. As for pots, we love our calphalon contemporary non-stick.

Re: pots/ knives
Henkles are the best... All Clad is the best but expensive!. We got Caphlon (which is almost as good) because my FH's parents were buying it for us. Be careful with the Henkles though... The 'professional' series are the good ones. .. the 'International' are a less expensive but don't have the lifetime warrenty.

Calphalon pots and Sabatier knives. My mom has had sabatier knives for decades, and my grandma recently passed and the kids divided up her sabatier knife collection (some as old as 40 years!)
