Do any of you live with your FH? FH and I are not getting married until next September, but we have been engaged and living together since May of 2002. I am trying very hard to be domesticated. The thing is, I am a very good cook, and I do enjoy the whole cooking and cleaning thing. It's just that most of the time, I just don't feel like it because I want to relax. Luckily FH loves to cook and he's great at it. Is anyone else in this same situation? I feel like I have the potential to be an awesome working woman/student/domesticate, however, it just isn't happening. FH doesn't complain, but I feel like I'm doing a crappy job anyway.

I HATE COOKING AND CLEANING. I'm so lazy with that. I always said I'd do so much more...but with school and work and all...now I finished school. I need another excuse!

Re: Practicing to be a wife.
I totally understand. My FI and I have been living together for over a year, I do like to cook especially if I am having a glass of wine because I am usually starving by the time I get home and need something to tide me over until dinner. It just seems like so much work to cook dinner (though I like to because it saves money and is healthier)...my FI doesn't mind if I don't cook and he shouldn't mind because he could be doing the cooking too. I still haven't decorated my house yet even though we have been here for 4 months and haven't done anything to the outside either, I feel crappy about not having done that.

Uuhhhhh I hate cleaning too!!! I get so grossed out though if everything isn't clean for a couple of days....I dread doing it and get into a really bad mood when I am cleaning. I try to do a really good cleaning every 2 weeks and keep everything neat in-between.

Re: Practicing to be a wife.
We have lived together almost 2 years. I don't cook, I don't clean and best of all I don't care. I do the food shopping at freshdirect.com and put it away. He cooks it and I do the dishes. I have yet to hear any complaints.

Re: Practicing to be a wife.
I do all the cooking, he does all the dishes.
I do the scrubbing cleaning every few weeks, and he straightens up every day.
Somehow we have managed a great balance.
I love doing domestic things and know I will be a great wife and mother, but I also fight it and resent it. I want a career as well, and for some reason, it feels hard to do both -although I know alot of women do it. So, yes, I hear you.

I cook, he washes the dishes. I hate to clean and everytime I think about being a wife I always feel I'll be a bad one because I hate to clean. Sometimes I feel I still live like I did in college and it's time to suck it up and grow up.

Re: Practicing to be a wife.
I am in a very similiar situation, we have lived together for 4 year now, he does everything when my lazy a$$ doesn't and vice versa. Do you want to fall in the 1950s housewife role? not me, he dirties the dishes he cleans too, My FH does laundry 95% of the time. He's great! To me a wife doesn't equal a maid or his mom.
