pray for marcelas grandfather--update 2/9/04 on page 4

Original post by Marcela1654

Hey everybody, This is Marcela's fiance Peter. She asked me to post an update for her. I hope this works.. Her grandfather had a stroke about 10 minutes ago and his left side seems to be paralyzed. PLease pray for his healthy and full recovery. Shes on her way to the hospital and asked me to ask you guys for your prayers. Thank you. Peter

2/8/04 Update: We've all been at the hospital all weekend, so I haven't had anytime to post and until now I was just too depressed and upset to even post.

Thankfully, little by little my grandfather is making process. He's more awake now (the doc says the reason he's been so sleepy is probably a combo of the general anesthesia, morphine they gave him for the pain and the stroke). And as of today, he can move his head from right to left (which is huge b/c the doc says that he would ignore his paralyzed side, which is the left side and for the first 2 days he wouldn't look to the left at all); he can move his left hand and squeezes it like a mad man ; he can move his left foot and my grandma just called (she's spending the night at the hospital) and told me he lifted his left leg a little. I am so happy and grateful that he's making progress, but I am still extremely sad and hate seeing him like this. He is usually such a strong person and seeing him like this breaks my heart. But we're still praying and pulling for him and hope that with physical therapy (which he starts tomorrw) he'll be able to walk and move his arm again. So please keep up the prayers everyone, they're working

Thanks again for all of your support and FMs. It means so much to us. Your support has been unbelievable.

I just read your update Marcela, that is wonderful news and I'm THRILLED to hear your grandfather is progessing so well. It is a very good sign that he's already coming along this way!!

As you told me on my post, keep the faith and prayers.. I truly believe in the power of prayer!! I have such a positive feeling for you and that your grandpa will slowly but surely get better!

Thanks Felicia I was just going to post again on your FFIL thread about prayer. I asked pretty much everyone I know to pray from my grandfather and to keep him in their thoughts. Aliciahelene even offered to put my grandfather's name on a prayer chain (which I gratefully accepted--thanks again Alicia ) And honestly, I believe 100% that my grandfather is doing better each day b/c of all the people (incl. the LIW girls) that prayed for him and kept him in their thoughts. So Felicia, keep on praying, try to stay strong, don't give up hope and ask all your friends/family, etc to keep your FFIL in their thoughts and prayers.

Marcela, I know you mentioned you were going to have your grandfather put into a rehab center.

I am not sure if you have it all taken care of but I must say that Burke Rehabiliation in WHite plains is AMAZING. My grandmother, a long time ago, and uncle more recently, have been there after a stroke and heart surgery and both had wonderful results. I know it may be out of the way for you and your family (it was out of the way for us too) however it was well worth the trip there everyday.

Good Luck

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I haven't spoken to my mom yet but she was supposed to speak to the social worker about the rehab centers. We're not sure which centers Oxford covers. But I will mention Burke to her. Thanks again
