I'm really nervous tonight, my grandfather, who's going to be 90 in a few weeks, has macular degeneration, but it's gotten much worse in the last few weeks and all of a sudden he can't see to read or anything of the sort, we're taking him to the eye doctor tomorrow and could really use your prayers, since they always work so well....thanks!

I'll say a prayer to my St. Paraskevi icon, she's the patron saint of eyes.

Re: Prayers for Grandpa....UPDATE
We got back from the doctors this morning, she said that the macular degeneration in his left eye has gotten worse and he's almost legally blind in that eye, he's going to be 90, goes to the city on his own everyday and the worst is that he may lose his independence, we're taking him to a retinal specialist in the next few weeks and he's on a special kind of vitamin to keep the damage where it is, so it doesn't get any worse. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers ladies, we really need them!!!

my grandma also has this and has been getting special shots in her eyes for the past 3 yrs now.... she'll be 87 this yr ... doc said she is just about legally blind in 1 eye, but the shots have been helping her... its a sad situation, but she too still gets out n does things on her own... how she sees clear enough to do that is beyond me

Jenna, sorry to hear his eye is getting pretty bad. I have to say one thing though- it's amazing that he is 90 and so independent! I will def keep him in my prayers!

. he had this first shot in his eye yesterday which was a good thing, if they can stabilize it that would be great, although ITA I dunno how he sees to do things, he takes the train to the city and walks around, does his thing all day long, he's really amazing, and we jsut don't want him to lose that, we told him to take it easy, he told us flat out, NO WAY!!!! He's a stubborn old man but thats why we love him, thankfully he lives with us and we take care of most of his needs, he still gives himself insulin shots (hes diabetic) and he says he can see but who really knows?!?!?

Thanks Michele, I really appreciate it, and it's true, he is totally amazing, I hope I'm as active as he is at 90!!!!!!!

yes, i know all too well about the stubborness!!! mine is the same way... but she does still live on her own, does some of the lighter food shopping in thr neighborhood, and calls in orders for delivery for the bigger items... still makes her way to the salon every week, but shre'll take cabs every place she has to go.... i think its great hes still independent enough to take the train but that would also worry me too of course... nasty people prey on the elderly and i would hate to know that my grandparent end up being a victim of some kind of attack its disgusting what is out there
