Hi girls, me and my FH do not live together but we are getting the itch to start looking at places to live.. Idk if its to warly though. For those of you who have already purchased or are in the process of home buying my questions is do we need to get Pre approved for a mortgage before we start to look ? The more I read online the more I get overwhelmed so I'd like to hear right from you guys! Thanks

Pre approved for mortgage?
If you are ready to start putting offers on homes, it's a good idea because some brokers will say 'please submit your offer alot with your preapproval.' But also like said above its only for a certain amount of time so of you're just looking to get ideas for now I would hold off.

Pre approved for mortgage?
For some the houses FH and I were looking at they always asked us if we were pre-approved. We did that before we even started to look so we knew what was realistic. We ended up putting in an offer and are now about to go into Contract!! Good luck with your search!!

Pre approved for mortgage?
We got pre-approved. We began talking to mortgage loan officers as soon as we started looking at houses. As soon as we found one we wanted to put an offer on, we went to the bank and got a pre-approval letter! This definitely helps to move things along quickly.

Some real estate agents won't take you seriously if you aren't pre-approved. They won't go out of their way to find you something good!

you can 'look' without being preapproved. If they ask, you just say yep we are. But when you plan on submitting an offer for a home, some realtors want you to be preapproved. Looking is fine though, you don't need a preapproval to just look around. It is nice to know what you're approved for beforehand though because then you have an idea of price range. The worst thing is to fall in love with a home that is out of your price range without you even knowing it

Pre approved for mortgage?
We started looking first and then figured we better make sure our credit was good and we could really afford what we thought we could.
According to some realtors we have dealt with It tells the homeowner you are a solid buyer which can help you out when you are in a multiple offer situation.
I did it over the phone with boa for free, took like 15 minutes. The pre approval letter only lasts 2 months? but realtors don't seem to care if it is 'expired'
You don't need to be pre-approved to look at houses. Although, getting pre-approved will let you know what price range of houses you can afford. It definitely helps to be pre-approved. Good luck! My fiancé and I are currently looking for houses now.

Re: Pre approved for mortgage?
i would get pre-approved first, this way you know what houses are in your actual budget. so you arent wasting your time looking at houses that are too expensive. it also shows you are serious about making the commitment
