hi. i'm greek orthodox & my fiance is catholic. we're going to have the ceremony at the same place as the reception (not sure where that is a/o yet, of course). we're thinking of having 1 priest for each of us. do we have to go through pre caana since we're having a catholic priest, even though we're also having a greek ortho priest for me? im not very good when it comes to religion. i also have no idea where a good place is to find a priest for either of us. we never go to church (shhh). thanks!

Re: pre caana or not?
I have to say that although Pre-Cana is a Catholic thing. My fiance and I got a lot out of it.. You should really try it. It will bring up questions that you would have never thought to bring up....
take the time and do it....

Re: pre caana or not?
a co-worker of mine just got married did not get married in a church because he is greek and she is catholic they did it at the hall. since she wanted the priest there also they made her take the pre cana class..
maybe just some church's do it like that im not sure
I was told by my Catholic church that you need to take Pre-Cana if you want to get married by a Catholic priest, no matter where it is (hall or church).

We were also told that if you are getting married by a catholic priest, even if it isn't in a church, then you have to do pre cana.

You might have to do some research to find a priest who will marry you outside a catholic church. And as far as precana is concerned - it's really no big deal - it's what you make of it. We did it on a saturday, the one day class and it was pretty easy.

Re: pre caana or not?
I would check with the Church. I know FH's cousin and his wife were married in a hall by a priest and a rabbi. They still completed Pre-Cana. It may be depending on the parish and the priest marrying you.

I don't believe there will be pre-cana for you and your FH if you're not getting married in a catholic church. Try looking into a Catholic Monsignor. They are a little more leniant than a priest would be. Unless it's important to your FH for him to actually be a priest. I know of a good one I can reccomend if you want his # send me FM and I'll e-mail it to you. His name is Monsignor Mike LaSante. That's who we're going to use I think.
Pre-Cana can be fun I heard too.

Re: pre cana or not?
You DO have to complete pre cana. My fiance is Catholic and I am Jewish. We are having both a rabbi and priest officiate at our wedding (marrying at our hall). We are required to go to pre cana. Every priest with whom I spoke said the same thing: if a priest is going to officiate (either alone or along with a rabbi), we must attend pre cana.
Monsignor Lisante runs interfaith pre cana with Rabbi Bloch. I'd call Elaine at Monsignor Lisante's office on Monday and explain your situation. They'll direct you better than anyone else will.
