We just received our registration confirmation for Pre Cana classes. We will be taking the class over a weekend (to get it over with) Has anyone done pre cana yet? Is it like FOCCUS? What should we expect?

Re: Pre Cana
We completed Pre-Cana a month ago. We did it in one day. My FH and I had a great tme. There was a couple who talked to us about their 34 year marriage and their was also a priest. The couple gave brief talks along with scripture readings, after each talk we worked in the books that was given to us. The books have many questions for us to answer on our own and then we go over them with our future spouses. We got a completion certificate at the end of it. It was defintely a great experience for us. Since then, my FH has been coming to church with me on a weekly basis. To think, all it took was a Pre-Cana class to get him to go to church. I've been asking him for years!!!
Don't know about FOCCUS. Sorry.

Re: Pre Cana
Each one seems to be different depending on the church the class is taken from. We had a good experience...two nice couples led the discussions and they moved along quickly. The FOCUS test was long...I think about 150 multiple choice questions but nothing to stress over. Just questions looking for your view and looking to compare against FH's answers to see if you have discussed issues.

Re: Pre Cana
We have our Pre-Cana orientation this Sunday...the letter tells us to be at the rectory by 2:30 and expect to be there until 6:00..We have to attend 5:00 mass..
THEN we have to attend class one night a week for 7 weeks!!!!!!!!
I told FH that we should of done the weekend one,,,BUT noooooooooooooo....god forbid he missed ONE flag football game!!!!!!
I am not one to sit still and listen to someone speak for over an hour..THIS in itself will be a challenge for me...and FH since he cant bring his Play station 2 or X-Box along...

Re: Pre Cana
Where are you having it? We did the weekend encounter at the Montfort Spiritual Center and LOVED it! The priest who runs it is fantastic and it was fun - and a nice little get away where all you do is think about your relationship for the weekend. No distractions! I would recommend everyone does it this way.
It was funny too, b/c my FH is soooo against organized religion - so needless to say, to him, this was going to be torture. he loved it!

After the Pre Cana class, we thought of the weekend encounter. I'm glad to hear you and FH enjoyed it!

Re: Pre Cana
My church where I am getting married only gave us the choice of weekly classes. We are going every Friday in May....I hope it isn't too dull.

Re: Pre Cana
We are doing Pre Cana with the deacon from my church (but the priest will marry us). It was free and much more personal. We have to meet with him 4 times for less than an hour each time. I am nervous because I dont want to talk about certain things and I dont want to be judged..but I think I am working myself up too much. I think it'll be fine!!! We met with teh deacon a few nights ago and we already have HOMEWORKE!! We have to write him our own letters to him about 'why I want to get married'...how crazy is that?? Should be intresting!

Re: Pre Cana
DH and I actually ended up enjoying our class. Of course he would never admit it, but he did. We only had to go one Saturday from 9-6pm. It was long, but we got a lot out if it.

Re: Pre Cana
We did the weekend pre cana and it was great. I thought it would be boring, but it was actually very nice and you learn a lot about each other and it is over in two days. I hope you enjoy yours!

Re: Pre Cana
We did our pre-cana over a bunch of weeks (one night per week.) It was a great experience. We were surprised that we liked it and even learned a few things. We didn't do the FOCUS test. It was never even mentioned at our church.

Ditto...except that we did Pre-Cana on a Saturday - all day session, but it was only one day. No FOCUS.
