My FH and i have to do a pre cana. The in-house precana through our church wont come around until after the wedding. We were informed that we have to do it through the 'Rockville Center Diocese'. Problem A: they want $250 (We already have to make a donation to the church) Problem 2: All of there sites are in Uniondale. We live in Rocky Point. nough said! Problem C: We have to take another course ontop of that which is called a focus class or something.
i just can't believe $250 to talk with other married couples for 8 hrs!!!!!!!!!
thanks just needed to vent!

Re: Pre-Cana
Actually, you can do Pre Cana through ANY diocese. You get a certificate at the end which you take to your priest.
I did mine through the Brooklyn Diocese, at a church in Queens because their schedule worked WAY better for me. I had to go on a Friday night from 7:30pm to 9:30pm (but they let us out at 8:30) and then Saturday from 9-5pm (but they let us out at 2:30.
It was $175 for PreCana.

Re: Pre-Cana
That sux!
But FOCCUS isn't bad... it's like 45 mins to an hour, you go, you take a test and then you leave... really, don't even count it as something else you have to suffer thru because it's so not a big deal, you'll see!

Re: Pre-Cana
We are doing it through Rockville center and are required to do all the same things. I do agree, however, that all this 'donating' feels nothing like a donation to me.

Re: Pre-Cana
My Church gave me #'s to other church's in my area to see if they would accomodate us. We ended up doing ours through my church and it was free.

Re: Pre-Cana
The reason it is $250 is because pre cana is supposed to be a 6 week program and you are paying for the convenience of doing it in two days.
You can attend precana anywhere in the diocese just start calling parishes and asking but if you are looking for a one or two day slot your options will be limited and expensive.
I am sorry you aren't able to do FOCUS because it is a very good program and only takes about 45 minutes two seperate times.
Maybe if you think about how much you are paying your vendors for working for 5 hours then paying $250 for 16 hours wont be so bad. Remember that in that fee is your food and the parish has to keep the lights on and the heat on and that all the volunteers are there to help. At the end of my precana they gave us a beautiful cross that was worth the cost of our 6 week session.

Focus is optional if it is not a requirement with you church.
