Re: Pre-Cana
Well, they are all different but ours was pretty easy.
The couple would pretty much talk to us for a few minutes then we'd take pages out of this workbook and fill it out about each other separately and then compare answers and discuss. It was SO easy it was laughable. No one got put on the spot, no one had to share anything with the class, it was all very private which is remarkable considering there were about 20 couples in our class!

FOCCUS is nothing! Yes, there are a lot of questions, but the answers are VERY obvious. I think they choices are yes, no, or doesn't apply. Don't be nervous.
I'll tell you next week how it went

Wow! That is so good to hear, b/c those are exactly the things I'm afraid of (getting put on the spot and sharing). Hopefully my class is like yours!

Re: Pre-Cana
ok foccus- REALLY easy! FH and I actually sat next to each other during and were done fast... there's nothing to be nervous about. we scored really really really well. its more of a way to open the lines of communication.
now pre-cana... I DREADED... but honestly, it was fun. I think it varies by where you go and what the program is like. ours wasn't bad at all.

They didn't ask questions about intimacy as in are you, aren't you? They asked have you discussed if you want children, how many, if you can't have children naturally will you adopt, how will you raise them and they really tried to cram the 'Natural Family Planning' down our throats, not that I was biting! And again, the questions they asked you didn't answer out loud in front of a group. It's more just to get you and FH talking about it. We actually did discuss a few things I would have never thought about otherwise and I'm happy for it!

Re: Pre-Cana w/ update
Oooops I just realized I never told you guys how it went.
I'm soooo glad it's over! I just thought it was extremely boring. They had ppl come and just do lectures, and b/c there were 24 couples there, they didn't make you really do anything but listen. We did have a workbook that you would have to rip pages out of. There would be a His page and a Her page with the same questions on each, you would fill them out separately and compare, but no one saw them but you and FH. They were just trying to get you and FH to talk about things you may not have talked about before. I thought the lectures were good. In all, they really just wanted to prepare you for what marriage is really going to be like, the stuff that ppl don't tell you. How to deal with fighting and being open, they talked about intimacy and having children. I thought it was all very helpful but we were just there for a long time it was cold and the food ******. It was helpful I guess, but FH hated it lol. We're glad it's over.
I wouldn't tell anyone to be nervous about it, I thought it was a cake walk. It was such a large group b/c I went through the diocese b/c FH was having trouble with how the parishes schedule their's. He's a cop so he can't get off something like 8 Sunday's in a row. This was a Saturday and Sunday 9-4. I've heard the parish ones are smaller groups, but I couldn't tell you how they differ.
Hope this helped for ppl who haven't done it yet.

Re: Pre-Cana
We thought it was pretty easy , ours was Friday night Saturday day. Friday night was an hour and half, and we mostly prayed we also had to write a letter to each other. Saturday the couple just talked and we had to answer questions on paper and then have Fh had to read my answer and I read his.

haha I was there too! My FH was the one who told the story of his MIL (my mother) hitting him with a wooden spoon (i seriously thought I was going to smack him lol)
We actually didnt think it was that bad at all - and we did get something out of each of the people who spoke...although, we did both start to nod off when the priest spoke...whoops

Re: Pre-Cana
We actually really liked precana! We went once a week for 2 hours for 5 weeks. We were in a group with 4 other couples and 2 'host couples' who were older/married a while and kinda lead the group in discussion. We got really friendly with the other couples in our group and we got alot out of the discussions. It raised some important points we never really considered before and it was interesting to hear how other couples deal with their problems/issues. It was veru laid back - and honest. Like even though it was run through the church - the host couples were very cool as far as living together before marriage, talking about sex, and other taboo topics for the church.

I took it twice.... long story.
It's interesting for like an hour but for 2 days worth... not so much!
It's a neccessary evil. You have to try to ahve a sense of humor about it.

Re: Pre-Cana
fh and i had a pretty boring time at our 1st class this past weekend. we got a booklet, were introduced to a topic, sent to answer questions seperately, told to meet back up and go over answers with eachother, then meet back in group and move on to the next topic.......and it went like that for the whole 4 hours..... needless to say, we cant WAIT to go next week!
