Pre Cana Again
Can I ask everyone a favor, the whole pre cana timing is still getting Joe and I crazy! Can I ask you all a favor!! please!! Since Joe's time is the Air Force's time and not his own. We only really have the March 22-April 1st or in June for pre Cana. I have spoken to parishes in philly where his family lives, in Colorado where the AIR FORCE ACADEMY is and here to no real avail. Our wedding date is 07/05/02 and I'm getting nutty.. Can you ladies that are catholic maybe check with your parishes this sunday if ya go to mass and find out if they offer anything that fits those dates. I'm actually getting pretty upset with the Church right now, especially since we are at War that they are giving us grief. We are begging our parish about allowing us to do it privately but who knows. Our priest has been very nice with everything else, since his brother is in the NAVY but he is away:( Anyone that can help I would appreciate it!!! Thanks! Laurie:) Ps. does anyone know if there is an online precana..

I'll check this weekend, but in the meantime, try this...
The deacon who runs pre-cana at my parish, St. Frances de Chantal in Wantagh, is REALLY nice. Try calling him, and explaining your situation. Maybe he can help you out and give you some ideas of who to contact, etc. His phone number is 516-785-2333 ext. 207. His voicemail box fills up pretty quick, so just keep trying back. I think he checks it from his day job several times, and then also when he gets into the rectory at night. He is SO nice. He was really open about our interfaith ceremony at the reception site. It turns out his son married a Jewish girl, so he's really cool with the whole thing. He's very family oriented, and I'm sure he'll try to help you out if he can. Cathy & Scott

Thank you I will try! Is Fr. Tom devita still there. He did my communion back at St. James when I went to school there back when it was a school:) St. James wouldn't even let us set a date, I guess they have had problems so we are getting married at St. Kilians in Farmingdale and our priest is great, we just can't reach him. It's driving me insane since Joe and I both attended Catholic Schools from K-12, his mom is a eucharistic minister, I have my certificate to teach Catechetics (Sunday school) and both of our parents are happily married Catholics. I hope St. Francis can help me. Thanks!

Sorry, Father Tom isn't still there. I don't know where he went. I'll ask my mom if she remembers.... This link is to the list of parishes on the Diocese of Rockville Centre site. Worst case, maybe you can call all of them. (I know, ugh.) Unless you already tried that. http://www.drvc.org/parishes.htm OK, totally not related....Every time you mention the USAFA I have to smile. My brother and I were both born there when my dad was stationed at Pete Field. My dad put in 20 years, and is now contracted back to the USAF as a civilian. It's so beautiful out there! I love the Garden of the Gods. I hope you aren't too nervous about being a military wife. I know that military life was a little rough on my mom at times, like being away from her mom when we were first born, but my brother and I loved growing up in the Air Force. We've gotten to see so much of the US, which so many Americans don't take advantage of. We even got to live in England for 4 years. People think it's a hard way to grow up, but we didn't know any different. And my mom loved travelling so much. Best of luck to you.

Not worried to say the least. I have joined a yahoo club for officers wives and they are a huge help. Plus Joe is starting flight school on Sept 6th at NAS Pensacola, Florida ( for six months he is training with the NAVY which should be nice since they do training at your own pace, so we will have more control to have some newlywed time, plus P'cola is awesome, and it should break me in nicely. Everyone thinks it is so horrible, but it's great we communicate more than you can imagine, we have webcams, emails on our cell phone, a great LD telephone plan, I have mastered most major aiports and airlines. Alot of people around here don't seem to understand why I would want to marry joe since he plans to be a fighter pilot and some can be downright rude. But I must all my vendors have gone above and beyond with trying to help us out with prices and digital pictures and all this great stuff. It's just the Catholic Church this is the struggling with the Fact that any time Joe has belongs to the AF. Plus I don't know about your mother, but I am guessing she must be one of the strongest women you know.. having children in all different states and possibly contries, not having grandma and grandpa so close and be able to be the mom and dad sometimes! Joe has atleast a 12 year commitment starting in May as an officer so it should be a fun ride. Plus added bonus, he has no college loans and he has a full private pilots liscense at 22 which is great! Ok, I'm babbling! Well anyways, I am real glad you told me about your family it helps me out alot. :) Laurie

Pre Cana Again
My fiance and I did the Engaged Encounter/PreCana weekend in Rockville Center, and it was a great experience (although long days!). There are no dates available in March, but they have two weekends scheduled in June. Their website is http://www.engagedencounter.org/ Good Luck!

Pre Cana Again
Laurie, I am actually doing my Pre-Cana this Saturday. It is from 9am to 4pm. I am looking in the book right now and the only thing I see is a June 1 Pre canna at the Queens Diocesan Facilities it is in Douglaston.

Pre Cana Again
My FI and I already completed our PreCana. It was only two Saturday evenings (about three hours each). The nice thing was that it was a group session with the priest and a pre cana designated couple. It was a group of about 25 - 30 people in all. We also didn't have to pay for it. They asked instead of money to 'donate your time'. Turns out the church is also a homeless shelter for women at night (about 4 women) and they ask that you come in to set up or clean up for them. (took us about 1/2). It also made us feel good. Try the Sacred Heart Parish in Bayside. They are off of Bell Blvd. They are really wonderful (strange isn't it that some priests can be so mean!!). Good Luck!
