Tonight was back to being wonderful we discussed two main topics:
1. Sexuality in Marriage. Basically, they told us to always communicate about our sexuality. . . it is as important as the other parts of marriage! Never let your sex life get boring or dull. Never be afraid to work on it and change things around, etc. Overall, great advice!
2. God in our marriage. They told us we should discuss what role God will have in our marriage. This is a touchy subject for us because I am pretty religious and although FH was raised Catholic, he is not religious. So we got to talk about that which is nice.
They made a great point that I totally agree with. For girls who are getting married in the church: Marriage is a SACRAMENT that we are CHOOSING to receive. We can get married anywhere, so if we get married in the church we are obligated to carry out the sacrament in our married lives. Totally agree with this and this is the reason I went back to church!! I didn't want to receive this amazing gift from the church (marriage) and then say 'thanks, see ya' and never go to church and leave God out of my marriage!
They also explained some of the graces that come with the sacrament. Two that I remember are healing and radiance. Basically, through marriage God gives us the gift of being able to heal each other ( emotionally) AND the gift of basically 'glowing' (for lack of a better term) with love and having other people see that.
Now here comes the tough part! They asked us to seriously consider two things ( as homework I guess, lol)
1. What role will God play in our marriage? 2. To abstain until the wedding day!
We are actually sad that there is only one night left. But I think FH will be relieved because he has to keep leaving work early and it is starting to be his busy season. . .but we have really enjoyed our experience so far!

Sounds like this is really good for you - it really gives you a lot to think about as a couple, and starts your marriage off with the two of you 'on the same page' about things.
But is it run by a priest? Who talks to you about your sex life? Didn't it make you blush?

FH and I were MORTIFIED - but it is a married couple - they have six kids and are still TOTALLY in love!
it is so great to see that type of marriage for us! Our parents, although still together, are basically like. . . 'partners' living in the same house. They are happy and have great marriages, don't get me wrong. . . But they don't give off this 'in love' vibe like our pre cana couple does!

Re: Pre Cana Night #5
I know what you mean. My parents are the same way. Honestly, in the last 15 years, I've never seen them kiss or hold hands. I just thought that's what marriage was. Then I met FH's grandparents, who were together for 50 years, and she still giggled when she talked about him, and he was always putting his arm around her, fussing over her, calling her beautiful... and it made me realize that marriage can be like that, no matter how long you're together.
So, it's so great for you and FH to have 'marriage role models' like that, so you can say, 'that's what I want our marriage to be like!' So you both maybe can remember what little things you can do for each other that will show each other how in love you are, like this couple.

hmm well basically last week they were focusing on NOT actively trying to NOT get pregnant. . .using any outside methods etc.
so i guess what they were saying last night was that you can AND SHOULD enjoy sex ( as a gift from God) but you are also supposed to welcome babies at all times.
It is not really contradictory. . . just two different parts of the same 'lesson.'
Please also just don't go by my explanations bc they are just MY view on what they are teaching - so I hope I don't confuse anyone, I am not trained in this or anything.

all i was saying was that from what they taught you last week it sounded like the only way you COULD do it was if you were trying to have a kid. I was just saying THEIR view is weird cause one minute its like abstain and the next its like dont make it dull or boring.

yeah i got ya - i think that was in the way i was explaining it and not in the way they taught it - plus that whole 'natural family planning' thing was like 15 minutes at the end of last week's session so i think that is why i felt so confused about it!
