Our church is only offering Pre-Kana on Nov 6th and the next one is in April of 05'.
Heres the problem - we have a wedding to goto on Friday Nov 5th (nov2004bride ) and we were planning on staying the night at a near by hotel because the wedding is far out on LI. Pre-kana starts at 8:30 the next morning....if we have to do it we will - but do think if we wait until the April session thats cutting it too close (we are getting married 5/01).
I want to be able to enjoy myself at my friends wedding and not have to worry about getting up super early the next day for 9 hours of Pre-Kana - what do you all think about taking the April one?
TIA

Re: Pre Kana Question
It's Pre-Cana after the Feast of Cana...
You'll be fine to take the April '05 one. Make sure it is OK with your church though. I'm surprised there are none between Novemeber and April though - call the Family & Life Center to confirm ...
You can take it anywhere at any church in the dioceses/

Re: Pre Kana Question
Can you do it through a different church? We had the same problem(conflicts) and called the church. They said as long as you get the certificate it would be fine to do it at another church. Maybe you could find out if they allow that so you can enjoy yourselves.

They are lacking volunteers to run it, that is way they only have these two sessions. We thought we were only able to go to pre-Cana w/ the church you were getting married in - we will def call them and ask if we could go somewhere else.
Thanks

Re: Pre Kana Question
I went to St. Adalbert's and am getting married at Sacred Heart. You definitely don't need to do it in your church.

Re: Pre Kana Question
I agree that you should be able to go to any session within the diocese - unless your church wants you to go to a specific one. I went to pre-cana two weekends ago and I was surprised at how many people were getting married within one month - so next April should be fine. Our priest wanted it done far in advance, though. Every church is different.
FH and I had a wedding the night before our pre-cana also - we managed to make it through it!

Re: Pre Cana Question
Your church might not let you wait that long. Look into taking it at another church - my husband and I took it somewhere else.

Re: Pre Cana Question
I am sure you can do it through the Diocese. We could not do it through the church we were getting married in, but they referred us to the Diocese- there are a few places that have really big ones- there were over 30 couples in ours.

Re: Pre Cana Question
We did ours through the Diocese b/c our church didn't offer it when we wanted. Our church was fine with it. We took it at Emmanuel Retreat House at Kellenberg in Uniondale. It was a two day course (9-4 each day-not sleepover), it wasn't half bad to be honest. There were about 62 people in the class! So you didn't even have to break up into group dicussions and all that jazz.(Several couples that were there were getting married TWO WEEKS after the Pre Cana class). They fed us well too. I would look into it if I were you. PS- the Retreat House was nice too! At lunch, we got to go outside & walk around the koi ponds & gardens.

Re: Pre Cana Question
we did ours in our diocese (RVC) even though the church was diocese of brooklyn. You should be able to work something out.

Re: Pre Cana Question
Well I was just in the same situation - we just did ours last weekend (nothing like waiting for the last minute).
Most churches say you need to do it more than 60 days prior to your wedding. Find out if your church follows that rule...also there are so many other churchs that offer Pre-Cana - you don't have to do it at your parish!
Good luck!

Did you find out if you can do it at another church? I also thought I wouldn't be able to, but they did say ok. Hope it works out!

Re: Pre Cana Question
Not only can you do pre-Cana in a different church you can totally do it outside your Diocese. My church that I'm getting married in is in the Diocese of RVC, but I'm doing pre-Cana where I live in Baltimore, MD.
I WISH we could do it in NY though - less Catholics in Baltimore County, so the church is way more strict/devout. HOWEVER - it is cheaper down here.... 70.00, rather than the 250-300 bucks I saw in NY.
