So FH and I started pre-cana yesterday. I thought it was pretty interesting, FH thought it was ridiculous.
But I must say, if I hear one more person tell me that marriage isn't always happy and bells and whistles, I'm going to scream FH and I have been together for over 9 years. We've been living together over 2. I KNOW we're going to fight!
Anyway.....we were given a workbook with his and hers worksheets that we had to fill out. FH was answering in stupid ways, and of course I was trying to be somewhat serious. As in one question was 'the first time we were together, I felt..........' And he wrote 'hungry'
We also had to play the 'newlywed game' where we had to try to guess each other's favorite things. FH got 5 out of 15 right, I got 8 out of 15 right. I obviously know him better
All in all it was ok. It lasted 2 hours and I thought it went by pretty quickly. Next 2 hour session is next Thursday

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
sorry for my ignorance, but what's pre-cana? is this a religious thing? we're Jewish so I don't know much about Christian customs. sorry again for my lack of knowledge
so funny about the Newlyweds game! me and FH plaid it one weekend out of boredom, FH def knows ALL of my fav stuff. he got 99% right, while I totally fumbled

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
Thanks for the feedback...we start in September! We actually met with our priest last night and he asked me and Eric if we are blood related. I have heard mixed things on pre cana though and I have heard some hysterical stories so please let me know how it goes!

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
Last night, when we were filling out the forms, the priest actually questioned us about having the same address. It was a little awkward but we just said, yes, we live together. Unfortunately, the way things are now of days, we wouldn't be able to afford paying two different mortgages! After that answer, the priest just moved on. Good luck though, it definitely made me sweat a little!

Yes, our priest knows we live together. FH isn't Catholic, so I had to fill out a 'permission slip' to get permission from the church to marry him. On the form I had to put each of our addresses, and of course I put the same one for both. My priest looked at it, said 'oh right, you mentioned you live together' and then moved right on. We didn't need to justify anything.
Regy: Pre-cana is kind of like a pre-marital counseling that you go through through the church. It's just a preparation for marriage, but with religion involved.

OMG! I am so nervous about this. Our classes aren't until November, but FH is going to HATE it! He's going to suck at the newlywed game!!

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
Last night was fun! [FH and I are in the same pre-cana] - I was so proud of him, I was nervous he was going to be annoyed about the time commitment since he has so much other stuff going on, but he was a champ! We both did well on our newlywed game, I did better, of course, and it was just interesting to hear and reassuring to know that all couples get into the same fights, about the same issues. I really liked it. Its nice to have a set time where we have to sit down and discuss MARRIAGE - not the wedding!

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
I think secretly FH had a good time. Even though the couple that spoke to us kind of rambled on for way too long. That's what bothered FH the most out of the whole thing....was listening to the couple take a half hour to tell a story that could've been told in 10 minutes
ETA: Carla, remind FH that you could've done the weekend retreat instead, lol. That's what seems to work whenever my FH was complaining. At least this way it's only 2 hours at a time with a week-long break in between each session.

That is true - he did seem like he was having fun!

Re: Pre-Cana started yesterday
Sounds like it was quick and painless! FH would kill me if I told him about how wonderful your Pre-Cana is at Holy Name. He wanted to get married there, but I insisted getting married at my home parish even though I don't even go to church there. Now we are stuck doing Pre-Cana for three months!!!!
