pre-cana today

My fh and I just returned from precana this afternoon and I must admit...it was absolutely wonderful! I was a little apprehensive at first..not knowing what to expect, but let me tell you...we both really enjoyed it. It was at the immaculate conception center in douglaston queens and we had a wonderful couple speak to us as well as the bishop that baptized me...what a coincidance!

Anyway, I just wanted to let those of you know who havent done this yet. It was a great time and brought us even closer! Good luck all!

Re: pre-cana today

I'm not as happy with pre-cana as you are, I have a lot of issues with it - I guess some people running it are better than others. I agree if done right, it can help to bring you closer. I'm glad you had such a good experience!

Re: pre-cana today

We went in June and also had a great time.
I definitely brought us closer, learned a lot about each other even though we have been together for 9 years.
Go into it with a positive attitude and you will too!
I know it sounds sick, but I would do it again throughout our marriage if I could. It's a good reminder of what's important.

Re: pre-cana today

I agree that it opens up a lot of topics and can bring you closer, debbus, and even that it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow through with during your marriage. However, I DID go into it with a very positive attitude, and wound up very disappointed. So, just going into it with a positive attitude may not be enough if the people running it are not good. I was left feeling that I have about 100 strikes against me in my marriage and potential futre child raising because my upbringing was lacking in many areas.I have been upset and sad since it started, and I was really looking forward to it.

Re: pre-cana today

I'm not really looking foward to it either. I heard they basically tell you how to run your life and stuff. I don't know if that's true, but I don't like the sound of that. I am going to try to go there with a positive attitude though. I guess I have to try to make the best of it. We are doing a one day session from about 9am-5pm. What can we possibly talk about for that long? That's what I'm wondering.

Re: pre-cana today

My sister did it and said it was painless! My FBIL sat and read a book (he's agnostic). My sister is like a Super Catholic though she disagrees with a lot of current religious issues. She said pre-cana was fine though and is glad she went along with it! (My FBIL did get something out of it...although he'd never admit it!)

Re: pre-cana today

we did the 4 2 hour sessions. One was on how to better communicate, one was on 'family of origin' and one was on sexuality. (painless). It really was fine. The last one we haven't had yet, but it's a pot luck and there is a little mass being said, so I don't think we'll do much.
