Has anyone gone to precana at the Emmanuel Retreat Center, Uniondale?
We just called off our engagement but my (boyfriend-or-whatever-I-should-call-him) said he would be interested in going to precana. Our originally scheduled precana was with our church in Jan, but I can't go one of the days because I'm a bridesmaid at a wedding in another state and we thought it might be a good idea to see what the church has to say about our compatibility as a couple.
So I might try to go to this, do you think it's a good idea? Will we find out stuff about ourselves? Was it helpful to you or will I just cry the whole time because the other couples are actually getting married?
Thanks for your opinions, girls.

Re: Pre Cana weekend for canceled wedding!
Do you think pre-cana would help? Idon't know anything about pre-cana, I don't know what it involves. I think you may be right, you will be surrounded by happy couples getting married, it may make you feel worse. My sister and her husband recently went on a marriage encounter weekend. It focused on their relationship, communication, etc. That might be something more along the lines of what you need/are looking for. It was in Suffolk County somewhere. I'm sure there are more elsewhere, but if you are interested, FM me and I will get the info from her.

I think you will be hurting whether you are around happy couples or not, so it's worth a try. Isn't that what pre-cana is all about? I mean, the fact that your BF wants to go is a good thing and I think it's important to do all you can to make it work.

Maybe your church can help you find some other form of counseling. Did you speak to a priest? I'm sure that they could help you find a couple that does pre-cana in there home they might be willing to help you talk things through with FH in the privacy of there home.

it sounds nice to try it - but maybe you guys want to set up a private 'precana' with a priest - this way, you won't have to deal with other couples and all....if you call a church and explain the situation, they might be able to help.....
good luck we are all here for you whatever may happen or you both decide!

I agree with the idea of doing a private thing with either the priest or deacon and/or a pre-cana couple. Pre-cana really is about opening up in front of others and learning your compatability. You guys might want to work through some of your issues before going into a group thing with other couples that are planning weddings. Once again to you.
