Pre-Marital counseling

Pre-Marital counseling

Hey ladies! Anyone else have to pay for their pre-marital counseling? I go to a protestant church and my FH and I just talked to the Pastor and he requires 6 sessions before you get married. Neither of us minded until we found out that the sessions are $125 each!!! It really has me a little upset - I figured they'd do the counseling at the church like they do at most churches. Anyone else go through anything like this?

The Presbyterian church I'm getting married in is costing $1300 total for use of church, organist, coordinator, premarital counseling, sound tech, and a janitor. The counseling sessions are mandatory and the price per session( we have to do 4-5) was not specifically listed. Hope this helped.

i never heard of that, can you call another local protestant church to see if thats normal?

we got married in a catholic church and we had to have 4 meetings with the priest and then we had to do pre cana. now we did have to give the donation to the church and pay for the organist, the vocalist and the alter server

we took pre-cana classes(4 sessions) through our church and it only costs us $50. They had other options which were more expensive so we chose not to do them.

We can't even get married at the church because it will be under construction during the wedding so he was coming to the RH to do the ceremony. If the ceremony was at the church it would've been an additional cost for everything similar to what you're paying!!

I'm just bummed because I also thought our pastor would do the counseling himself so he would get to know us better (since that's the way it was for my sister and some friends who got married in the past). Now I feel like what's the point - he's not even going to know that much about us if he doesn't do the counseling. I feel like I may as well go get someone off the web if that's the case.

Sorry - maybe I'm just being a baby about it...

That stinks, sorry! Where do you have to take them? Can you shop around for a better price? And do you have other costs as well to get married there?

Wow do you have to go to the place that they recommended- some health insurance companies have programs or just require you to pay a portion- I would look into that.

If you are not going to the church and the pastor is coming to you and it sounds like u do not have a special relationship (the reason u wanted counseling with him) then you can totally find someone else to come to the rh!!!!!!

We paid for it too at our church. Honestly, it's really worth it. I know it's hard with all the wedding expenses. But in general, it helps couples understand each other, each other's habits, potential issues that may arise, and ways to communicate effectively. I totally recommend couples to go through it if they can.

I heard of it. I asked my pastor to be my officiant and he told me I had to take a compatibility test and when I when to the dr he referred me to, I had to pay 120 for the test and another 85 for him to go over the result and 85 per session if I wanted to continue my sessions with him. Overall it was a good experience. FH and I learn alot about each other but I had sticker shock when he told me the price!
