Precana & NYPD Brides to be or Fiances

Quick question..... I work Midnights, but I leave for work at 10:15pm to get to work... And I don't get home from work during the week & weekends until 8:45am-9am, and that's not including mornings, that I have court...... How have you worked out the precana schedule??? The weekends are hard b/c they start at 9am, and I don't get home until then, and getting off on the weekends is like pulling teeth... And during the week, it is from 7-10pm, but I leave for work at 10:15.... What do I do???? Has anyone else experienced this???

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I could barely get off a couple of weeks ago when my grandmother was sick, and I wanted an E day for the night......

And when I mentioned my dilema to the church, they said,' Well, you want to get married don't you, well you have to make some sacrifices...' Totally not understanding......

Where do I go from here????????

I would find out from the church when the precana weekend is and pick your vacation time around it- if your getting married next year you probably still have time to work that out.

I was thinking about that, but I only get 4 weeks, and I was planning, or hoping to use at least 2 1/2 of them around the wedding in November... So it will leave me one week to work with and I am 5th on the list to pick vacations (not much seniority) and some guys don't care if you need that week or not.. I'm already worried trying to get off for the wedding.....

Hi.

I know this isn't going to help, but the priest in my FH's parish is going to set us up 'specially' with the precana couple so that we can do it on FH's nights off.

Maybe another church would be nicer? Or maybe you could ask around at work?

IMO, that was a really mean thing for your church to say!

I work monday thru friday at night and to do pre cana I took a friday night off and did it in one weekend. Try to get your job to let you have a night off, explain your situation.

For us, it just happens to be that FH has set days oppose to tour change so Sun/mon are the days off. I set up precana for Sun nites.
I know that there are some that do the precana within one day.
Maybe there is an option like that and you can work around that.
I hear a lot who have done it that way liked it and liked that it was over so quickly.

Try the brooklyn diocese. It's $150, but they had the most flexibility.

If the hours aren't good, they may have smoe other options for you.

My FH is a paramedic in Brooklyn and he's got a pretty crappy schedule too. We planned the Precana weekend and he just had to get 2 day off. It helped us a lot. Contact the Dioces of Rockville Centre (SP)

My fiance is on the job, too. We just completed the weekend one 2 weeks ago. He has a fixed tour and since he is not on a squad, he gets chart days instead of a 3 day swing. His shift is something like 5pm to 2am or so.

I chose the saturday/sunday instead of the weekly one since with the weekly he would need 4 days (well, nights actually) off and with the weekend, he would only need two. He worked his shift on Friday, got two hours sleep and then we went to pre-cana on saturday and sunday. He showed his command his slip showing he was registered for it the week of and used 2 chart days.

DH is NYPD and we were concerned about that too. We got the schedule for the year and worked it out during his time off, and then the days he wasnt off, he took vacation days. Or you can do the all in one day thing.

I'm going to have to work it around my vacation schedule... My CO has cancelled all days off on the wekends, and it's even hard to go Admin Sick.... I love my job, but sometimes its very trying on your home life...

We had the same problem b/c we are getting married at St. Agnes in RVC and our options were either several weeks in a row at 7PM (not happening b/c I work in Manhattan and live in Queens and FH is NYPD and schedule rotates). Or, a couple of weekends. We ending up going two Sundays in a row - I booked it as soon as we booked the church b/c I knew it was going to be a hassle.

Don't you think if you told them why, the CO would make exceptions? My fiance is in an EXTREMELY busy command and they ok'd it. Also, you have a lot of time before you need to got to pre-cana, a lot could change by then . . . maybe you will be at a new command or have a new CO.

I would look around and see if you can find one that does it in a day and a half. It really doesn't matter where you dop your pre-cana as long as you do it.

I just went thru this with Sebastian!!! We decided to do a Saturday, and my first choice was a Sat that he is on vacation, 2nd choice was a Sat in Oct (easier to get off then). We (thank goodness) got our first choice, so he is guaranteed to be off, b/c he'll be on vacation.
