Re: Precana Question

I just got a call last night from the PreCana coordinator at my church saying that since I have an April 2003 wedding I will have to take PreCana in the fall. When I first met with the deacon, we had an option of doing a weekend PreCana, or the weekly meetings. We chose the weekly meetings, so this woman last night said we will meet beginning in September (after the 15th) and will meet 6 times - 4 in our group leader's house every Wednesday and then the last 2 will be in the Church.

That was all the info I got - over the phone. She sais she would be mailing out more information to all the participants, so I will keep you posted if you need!!

Re: Precana Question

We did the weekend retreat in Glen Cove about 7 months in advance. We wanted to do it in plenty of time before the planning took over our lives. We loved it, and recommend it to everyone we know who will go through Pre-Cana. We both got a lot out of the weekend, I think most people who have done the weekend will agree that it is intense, but well worth it. It is all what you make of it. It can be boring if you don't put the effort into the program, or use the time to really talk about specific issues. We dated for 10 years, and I still learned some new things about him.Our group leaders were great, so that helped make the weekend wonderful. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
Continued success to all...

Re: Precana Question

I wanted to do the weekend retreat but my FH wasn't too excited about that so we decieded to save the few hundred bucks and go to the Saturday 1 day class.

Very boring, didn't get much out of it.

We went in April (wedding in Oct) but there were a bunch of people there being married that month.

Re: Precana Question

We did ours 7 months before the wedding. We did it one night a week for I think 5 weeks. Each church does it different though. I wouldnt do it close to the wedding. I would get it done as soon as you can.

Re: Precana Question

Our precana choices were either four friday nights in a row from 7:30 to 10, or one weekend day from 8-5. I am in the middle of it right now. I thought I would like it, but I do not. I am very anxious for it to be over. We are getting married Oct. 12. But there are couples getting married in Nov., and also in March in our group.

Re: Precana Question

We did it as 4 vening sessions. We are not religious by any means -- but it was fun. It really depends upon the people in your pre-cana group & who's leading it. We had this sweet Italian couple who'd been married for close to 50 years and a second couple that'd been married about 15/20 years. And the couples were all pretty cool...

What parish are you in? Mine was through Our Holy Redeemer in Freeport... If you find someone who's been through it at your church they can give you the inside-scoop..

Re: Precana Question

We just got back from Pre-Cana. Today we were there for 5.5 hours. We're all done. We first had to go to an orientation and take a FOCCUS survey, and then we had to meet with a couple at their house to go over the survey, and then we just did the Pre-Cana. We also met with the priest to finalize the paperwork. We got our Certificate saying that we completed Pre-Cana. Our wedding is August 31. I can't wait!

Re: Precana Question

We are getting marrid next May. We were told by the priest that we will be doing Pre-Cana sometime this Fall. Ours will be a one day thing on a Sat. someting like 9-5. I was just wondering about this myself. What is done during pre-cana that takes up so much time. Do they get really personal with you? I know they talk about finances and stuff which is kinda a good thing. What else goes on?

Re: Precana Question

Hi Jennbaby, we did Pre-Cana at a retreat house on Shelter Island and I HIGHLY recommend it. It was so beautiful we were right on the water and there was a big outside pool you could use. My FH was not thrilled with the idea of going(He is not RC) but in the end we both agreed that it was great to get away from the planning and remember just why we were doing this in the first place. There were a few silly things going on. The sex talk was really funny. In the end, we learned a few things about each other (even after 8 years of dating) and had a good laugh all the way home.

Re: Precana Question

Thanks all.
I found out we will be doing precana in September for 5 weeks (1 night a week for 5 weeks) in a married couples house in my Parish. I also spoke to someone (FH's) cousin who did Precana in our Parish as well.
I hope we enjoy it like some of you ladies did.
