pregnant BM question....

pregnant BM question....

Just found out that one of my BM is newly pregnant; she's due a month before the wedding (she is going on and on about how she didn't mean to 'steal my thunder' but that's a whole separate saga LOL) The girls haven't been measured for dresses yet -- we're supposed to go in a couple weeks. She is normally a size 1 or 2 and she seems to think that ordering up one size she'll be fine. How can I be tactful and urge her to order bigger in the event that she DOESN'T bounce back to her normal figure in 4 weeks??? It's a LOT easier to make a dress smaller than it is to let it out and make it bigger....

THANKS IN ADVANCE on this one...

Re: pregnant BM question....

In my experience some BM dresses tend to run small anyhow so I always order a size up. Explain to her that they might run small so she should order 2 or maybe even 3 sizes up since she will just have had a baby and that they can always alter it. I don't know how you can make it sound any nicer.

Do people really bounce back that fast? One of my BM's had a baby 7 months ago and she still wont try on any BM dresses for me cause she is not even close to her original weight.

Most people DONT bounce back that fast but SHE seems to think she will LOL. She is going on and on about how breast feeding makes you lose so much weight bla bla bla (which is true to a degree but I don't think anyone looks exactly the same so quick)

Re: pregnant BM question....

She (and you) should talk to the person who measures her. A lot of dress shops seem to have a pregnant belly for them to try on to give them a good idea of what size they need. It's better to order it the pregnant size and then get it sized down after the baby is born. It's cutting it close, but you should be able to get an alteration like that within a month as long as you tell the seamstress that it'll be a fast turnaround in advance and to make sure there's room in the schedule.

And the shop ladies will probably know a way to tactfully tell her that her figure won't bounce back in 4 weeks, like you said.

everyone bounces back in their own way -- and if this is her first baby she will have no idea how her body reacts to the pregnancy.

Like someone said -- BM dresses don't go by street clothing size so right away she could be a few sizes higher then she normally wears. Have the sales person talk to her. One good thing is for pregnant girls they usually order extra length so that might help her not feel like she is ordering a tent.

Also try the -- 'I want to make sure you are comfortable route.'

It depends, If she is very skinny and toned the chances are she will bounce back pretty quick but you can never be too sure. I say ask the tailor...

I'm in a similar situation with one of my BMs. She's giving birth about 4 months before the wedding. I kinda left it up to the Bridal place ladies to encourage her to get a size or two up. Since this isn't her first pregnancy she has a good idea how quickly she gets back down to size, but one never knows. She did end up taking their advice and ordering about 2 sizes up.

When she goes to get measured have the seamstress suggest it and then encourage her.
