Pregos, anyone have VERY bad heartburn/Acid reflux?

I have acid reflux (so they say), and I get BAD heartburn now! WHat's going to be when I am prego?

How do you deal with it?

I never had it before I got PG, but since then, I've woken up in the middle of the night and I feel like dinner is sitting back in my esophagus! It has only happened if I had something like sauce or something spicy, and I didn't do anything for it. Just went back to bed! But I think taking an antacid is ok.

Jenn, are you hinting at something?

The body can be a funny thing when preggers!!
The very things that taunt you on a daily basis sometimes disapear during pregnancy.
So I say hope for the best and worry about it when it happens!!

No Trish nothing yet just curious because I take prevacid now and if I can't take it while prego, I will be in alot of pain some nights.

I guess I'll speak to my Dr.

You may not have any heartburn when you get pregnant. Also when you are pregnant, they say to stay away from spicy food.
That is what finally made me sick from m/s.

Ugh! Heartburn is the worst during pregnancy. Tums was my best friend on many, many days and nights! Someone once told me if you have tons of heartburn during pregnancy the baby will be born with tons of hair??? Anyone else ever heard this old wives tale?

I had heartburn and yes my daughter was hairy!! , I also carried high and in the front and I had a girl...so go figure..I don't believe those old wives tales anymore!

I had very bad heartburn during my pregnancy! It was awful, but I tried to keep my diet bland and not eat foods that I knew would just make it worse.

Also, I drank ALOT of milk and gobbled up alot of TUMS...I never left the house w/o them!
And yes, Paul was born with alot of hair!

ETA: Have you asked if you can take a different antacid, or maybe Maalox while pregnant, Jen?

So far I haven't had any heartburn. My poor baby will probably be bald.

If you are on special meds now for it, speak to your doctor and ask if you need to stop taking them if you are TTC or when you become pregnant. I am sure that the doctors can offer you some help.

I have had heartburn only once or twice during my pregnancy so maybe you will not have it at all.

I had horrid heartburn when I was preggo and Luke had tons of black hair.

The BEST BEST BEST thing I found was Pepcid Complete (which my OB OK'd) - I called it the miracle pill because one did the trick where a handful of Tums didn't.

I think everyone should check with their OB before they take anything.

I had heartburn a lot and Emma was born a baldy!!! I drank milk and ate Tums like they were going out of style.

PLEASE remember to drink LOTS of water. I had a kidney stone 2 months after Emma was born. It was a calcium stone probably from all the Calcium infused Tums and Milk. DRINK WATER TO FLUSH THE SYSTEM... KIDNEY STONE PAIN IS WORSE THAN LABOR!

Jenn; I think it's OK to take Zantac for reflux during pregnancy, so you may just need to switch medications.

Michele, the prevacid is ok while TTC, thanks though because if I didn't know to ask, I would of now

Hi Jenn!! I'm feeling as good as can be!! Thanks for asking!

I was bad and had Chinese food for dinner tonight. Let's see how bad the HB will be tonight!!

I got lucky with this. I only experienced it a few times - in the 6th month.

I did stay away from spicy and chinese though. I have really bad stomach issues - not heartburn...but really yucky stuff (TMI I know...) so I had to be careful. Talk to your doctor.

Before I was pregnant I had horrible heartburn and probably took about 10 tums a day. While I was pregnant, it only got worse. I lived on tums and while they worked temporarily, 10 minutes later it was back. It wasn't til about month 7 that I figured I'd ask my ob about it and he said take 2 Pepcid ACs, morning and night. I started doing that, and the heartburn was gone! I wish i had asked him earlier!
the good news is, since Joseph was born, my heartburn has all but disappeared! only coming once in while.

ps, joseph was born bald!

Mine was pretty bad later in my pregnancy and I had to prop my pillow up. I also ate a lot of tums at that time, they helped.
