Preists on Long Island?

We are having trouble locating a preist to marry us at our reception site. Please let me know if you have used a preist that marries outside or know of one.

Re: Preists on Long Island?

If you check my posts from a while back, you'll see a lot of info on this. If you are Roman Catholic marrying another Roman Catholic, you will not find a RC priest that will do this as a sacrament outside of the church. You will need to find somebody who is no longer w. the church. Cira (bride on this board) has a lot of contacts for this. She is using Father Wilshere, I am using Father Umana. I believe both of these priests left the church to be married.

If you are marrying a person of another faith, you can apply for a dispensation, which means the RC church will allow your marriage to take place outside of the church. Go to www.drvc.org for more info. Good luck - this gest very frustrating - just stick with it and get all the info you can and it will work out!

I am using Father Robert Altmen who was recommended by a friend whose ceremony was beautiful. He books up very fast and I believe he will marry any religion at any location. Let me know if you need any more info.

Father Allmen is supposed to be great. There is also a Father Brennan that I hear about a lot

Bodengallo...

Father Allmen's number is 631-723-2012. I spoke to him once on the phone and he was so nice and I am looking forward to actually meeting him before our wedding in October.

Question...if you use one of these priests, is it still recognized as being married 'in the Catholic Church?'

No, it will not be recognized by the RC Church. That was the problem. But from my understanding you can have it recognized later.

It's all so confusing, and I really would like to know definitely. My mother swears I will never get a 'real priest' to marry is outside of a church. It sounds like that's not true, but that you have to go through some process later for it to be 'recognized'. I'm willing to do that. I guess I really need to find out exactly. And I'm SURE it costs money!!!!!

Re: Preists on Long Island? Long!

You need to talk to your parish priest. Most parishes say you need to be a member for atleast a year. You will not be able to find a priest to do this outside of your own parish unless you have a family friend or the like in the priesthood. If your parish priest is willing to do so, then they will get special dispensation from I think the bishop. However, the RC Catholic Church frowns upon wedding ceremonies not taking place inside the church. The ceremony is supposed to be public, not private. I guess so anyone who objects can object. We are being married by a Catholic Priest who left the priesthood to be married. I am divorced and anulled, but marrying a divorced protestant. The church considers this adultery unless we try to get his marriage annulled. (that takes atleast a year, and cost me $750 back in 1991) We are doing what is in our hearts, not what someone in the vatican is saying is right, and our marriage will not be considered valid in the RC Church... Best of Luck, I had a hell of a time trying to do what my parents and religion wanted, and am at peace with my decision now.

Not for anything, but these days the church should be happy ANYONE even cares enough...they shouldn't make it any more difficult. I always find that it varies from parish to parish on everything from pre-cana to 'dispensations'. ARRGH!! Where's a Justice of the Peace!!
