PRESCRIPTION DIET PILLS?

PRESCRIPTION DIET PILLS?

I heard that there is such thing as prescription diet pills. Does anyone know a doctor who is familiar and comfortable with them?

Diet and excercise are not doing it for me...and the more I try, the more discouraged and upset I'm getting.

I was obese as a young teen, then became too thin.....then i went on the pill for health reasons and met FH, and now I feel like I can't keep weight off. My greatest fear is that I'll gain more weight when I go on the pill again, or become pregnant.

I know the routine.......diet, eat right, high fiber and excersise, but I need something to help aid.

Please let me know if you know a doctor who is comfortable with them.

There are quite a few prescription diet pills. I would think hard though about it, there are alot of side effects and it changes the way you act and feel. Talk to your doctor about it, and make sure you find out all the info first.

I KNOW I'M JUST REALLY DEDICATED AND NOTHING IS WORKING. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO GO TO A DOCTOR BECAUSE I GAINED WEIGHT. I SWEAR I WORK OUT AND EAT RIGHT- BUT I CAN'T SHED THESE LAST POUNDS TO SAVE MY LIFE.

I'M NERVOUS ABOUT TAKING THEM, THAT'S WHY I WANT A DOCTOR TO MONITOR IT FOR ME.

I would go to the doctor and explain your situation. It might be very possible that it can be a thyroid problem. For most people who have a thyroid problem they cant lose weight no matter what. Also if youre moody alot, and tired, and depending on how big the thryoid is, if you have trouble swallowing or breathing at times. First speak to the doctor and see what they say.

My mom started taking prescription diet pills like 2 months ago, and i freaked out bc it just reminds me of requiem for a dream, dont know if you saw that movie. I saw such a change in her behavior. Thank god she stopped taking them.

Good luck

There are prescription pills, but they don't just make you lose weight. Xenical blocks your body from absorbing some of the fat you eat. Sounds good, right? You eat potato chips and you don't get the fat? Well, the fat doesn't just disappear. Trust me, you don't want to find out what 'anal leakage' means in real life. It's not worth it. There's also Meridia, which is an anti-depressant just like Prozac. People on it do lose weight, but slowly, over time. I know some people take one of the double drug fen-phen, but I'm not sure which--but considering people died from fen-phen, would you want to take half of it? It's just not worth it.

You'd be better off going to a regiistered dietician. I'm sure you are trying hard to diet and exercise, but it's possible that you just aren't eating right. A registered dietician can help you. I lost 125 pounds five years ago, and I've kept it off (mostly, although I've gained a few pounds that I need to lose again before my wedding!) One of the ways I lost weight is I found that you need to EAT to lose weight. If you're hungry, you often eat lousy food. When you starve yourself, your metabolism goes down. You're better off eating MORE of better foods and exercising. I lost the weight by learing about nutrition. Get a referral to a registered dietician--not some trainer from your gym, a real RD. Your regular doctor, or your gyn, most likely could give you a name, or Google. The best way to lose weight for life is to learn how to eat properly. But if you want a shorter-term solution, plus support, go to Weight Watchers. I've seen studies that say that they are, by far, the best of the diet plans.

Don't worry, it's really not impossible to lose weight. I was very obese, and i did it, all by myself, no drugs, no miracle, no secret diet plan. I did it through eating sensibly--lots of whole grains, non-fat dairy, veggies, fruits, and protein--and getting plenty of exercise.

Good luck!

Re: PRESCRIPTION DIET PILLS?

You need to find a doctor who is comfortable with helping someone find a diet and exercise program that works for them, NOT just a doctor who is comfortable prescribing diet pills. There could be sooooooo many underlying reasons why diet and exercise aren't working for you - Don't you want a doctor that looks to those potential health problems first than just prescribes a diet pill?

I understand your frustration... but diet pills (even prescription ones) are unhealthy and dangerous. You need to talk to a good doctor who works with a nutritionist (and who will also test you for very common health problems that could be causing this).

Don't just go to any doc who'll write you a script. If you don't get to the heart of it, once you lose the weight and go off the pills... what do you think will happen?
