Hey, I am beginning to sort out my budget for the wedding and I was wondering how much it costs to make wedding invites as opposed to having them made. I never realized how expensive wedding invites are! and do I HAVE to include an RSVP card? I never check the mail! Cant I request my guests to call me , text or email me? I think its easier and more convenient... or do u think its tacky?

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
You DEFINITELY need an rsvp card! You are having a formal affair, not a birthday party. You'll just have to learn to check the mail ...
DIY can save you money, or it can cost you more ... it all depends on what style of invitations you want.

I agree with my hall-twin on both counts.
YES! You need an RSVP card!!! You can cut costs by doing an RSVP post-card (eliminates the envelope and cheaper postage). I dont think it's as formal, but it is 100000x better than telling people to call you with their RSVP. JMHO.
Also, DIY can cost more or less depending on what you want to do and whether you know what you are doing. I think people got cheap invites from Party City.
You also might be able to find a vendor who can give you a discounted price. We saved a bunch because a family member can get discounted invitations.

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
I agree with all the North Ritz Ladies! I think we all think alike!
Pricing is all dependent on how eleborate you make them.. they can be simple to absolutely amazing... check out PreshusSmurf's album... her DIY invites are AMAZINGLY beautiful!!!!!
Also, you should put in a RSVP card. It seems more formal. You can use RSVP postcards which will save you an average of 12 cents on postage plus the cost of an envelope.

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
i dunno
with tax i spent 290$ for 100 invites at party city
they are raised lettering with an elegant border. simple but nice. the had cheaper ones that were nice too.
they came in a week!
only downside is that it was kind of hard to concentrate with all the noise of balloon making. u can probably get similar priced ones online but i wanted to see them in person.

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
I got a great price on an invitation kit $45 for 150 invites. The have the vellum overlay, ribbon, response card and return envelopes. I am going to print them myself and add some crystals or other decorations to personalize them further. If you shop around you can find some great deals, if you want to DIY Good luck

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
here's my DIY invitation. Kit at Michaels' 50 per box $40 but use 40 or 50% coupon. so 100 invites for me was $42 plus maybe 1 ink cartridge. no inner envelope and since flat 5x7 card with vellum overlay was light enuf for 41 cent postage too.
I used left over cards for bridal shower thank yous by changing the wording on the overlay. everyone thought that was classy by getting matchinng thank you's like that. (I didn't give away my secret) and I used RSVP envelopes for tips. so nothing much went to waste and saved more too.
all the guests were really impressed with the invites; the pic doesn't do them justice.

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
We are DIYing, and I think it's costing around $300 for all paper goods (Invitations (not pocketfold but including RSVP and direction cards, outer and inner envelopes, and main invite is backed), menus, programs, placecards, favor tags....we ordered the supplies all in one shot)....

Re: Price of DIY: Wedding Invites
Interesting you mention not including RSVP cards...in the 'old' days, they weren't included. It was (and still is today, in the sense they must send the card back within the deadline) the guest's responsibility to RSVP. I have a 1962 Amy Vanderbilt etiquette book that I got from a used bookstore that doesn't even mention response cards. The guest was supposed to write back in longhand on his or her own stationery.
That said, I think you should include the cards. The guests are used to it, which leads to less confusion to them, which in turn leads to less confusion for you. If you want to cut down on costs, I suggest using postcards to reduce postage costs and omitting the inner envelope. If you cut out the inner envelope, be sure to indicate all people who are invited on the outer envelope.
Last, price out the DIY supplies. It may not be cheaper, particularly if you are looking for something complex.
Suppliers include Paper and More, Cut Cardstock, Recollections, My Gatsby, Paper Papers, Paper Presentation, Anchor Paper, Action Envelope, Mountain Cow, The Paper Mill Store, and Paper Mall. Paper Source is also good in terms of quality, ideas, and the array of already-cut supplies, but I wouldn't consider it as low cost as others.
