Price of Manhattan apartmants!

FH mentioned that he might like to buy rather than rent when we move back to Manhattan in Sept. Just for fun, I went onto NYTimes.com and searched for our 'requirements': 2 bedrooms, doorman, elevator. Pretty much the minimum price is in the $600K-700K range!! The downpayment is over $120K!! I think we'll be fine just renting for now

although it IS expensive, IMO you will NEVER lose $$$ if you buy in a nice area.

Seriously, most people i know have spent that on a studio or one BR in the city... 600-700k for a 2BR in a doorman building is a steal!

Oh my goodness I knew it would be bad, but I had no idea! Of course the one I really liked was $795K I think I really need a dressing room off of the master bedroom--who doesn't?

600-700K for 2 BR in Manhattan in REALLY GOOD... but I assume it is also a co-op Which is why you need 20% down). A condo would be much higher price, but less DP... We are paying in the low 600s for a 2 BR 2 bath condo and we are in Brooklyn. But its a very desirable area close to Manhattan. Once you get over the sticker shock, it ain't so bad LOL Prices are NOT going DOWN any time soon in Manhattan (or probably ever!). It will slow, but not go down!!! ETA -- If you wanna go on the WAY upper west side -- like 158th Street, there are newer more 'affordable' places! Whatever that means LOL
