Hi Everyone! My name is Heather and I'm brand new to the site! I just got engaged a few weeks ago and my fiance JP and I are hoping for a wedding in September 2009. We live in Boston but both grew up and have our families on Long Island...hence the LI wedding.
We make frequent trips to LI and plan on visiting many reception halls, however planning from afar is never easy. (God bless this site and the internet!) I was curious if any of you had started off your search process by Emailing the halls for price quotes? Is this professional or a good idea? My thought was it might be a good way to rule out places that are too expensive, or just give us an idea of what we will be dealing with.
Any thoughts??
I can't wait to plan my wedding with all of your help!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Most places did email me price quotes. Hey, nobody wants their time wasted, not even them! I even put in the time frames I was looking for, ie: season, month, time, day of week. Most people got back to me with general quotes which was fine. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Some times they will give you round about prices online or through email, but I would say most try to make you set up an appointment. It can't hurt to call/email and explain that you aren't local and you would appreciate any info they can give. If they are difficult or nasty about then why would you want to give them all that money anyways right! HTH
It was very helpful because it listed a lot of the price ranges. I put together a list of places that were in my price range and then checked out their websites and make appointments if I liked what I saw. I also bought a magazine that was really helpful: Long Island Bride and Groom. I guess it couldn't hurt to also email and/ or call certain places for pricing, especially if u have a certain date in mind-----certain places will already be booked.
If u narrow down your search to a few places, u can also add a posting and I'm sure a lot of people on here will be familiar with the places and they can give u some opinions.
Good luck planning!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Hi, Welcome and Congrats!!!!! I think that asking for email quotes may be a good way to narrow down your search. I'm sure that the price will change as details are discussed, but as long as you give them your date, time and approximate number of people, they should be able to give you a price range. That way, you can make the most use of your limited time here. If they refuse to do that, I'd be skeptical.
And, if I may offer a piece of wedding planning advice to a newly engaged......Please try not to make any decisions...not even the most obvious (like who is in your wedding party)...until you have been engaged for 3 or 4 weeks. Let the thrill and power of your 'Yes' sink in. I wish someone would have warned me about how important those couple of weeks were to adjust.
Good Luck and Happy Planning. This is a great forum that is full of knowledge, experience and support!!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Hi and welcome to the board and please come to the 09 board Regarding your question, the RH usually dont give quote through the phone or by email but we can always help you in the board and tell you what quote we got and maybe that can help you narrow down the RH. HTH and happy planning!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Also...this site lists a lot of Nassau and Suffolk venues, and it gives you the price range, which I've found to be pretty inaccurate. But, it's still helpful for comparisons. http://www.weddingsitesandservices.com/

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Welcome and congratulations! I was able to get many quotes through e-mail and over the phone. I'm sure there are some places that may require to meet in person though. Good luck!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
I am not sure if RH's will give you quotes via phone or email, but it can't hurt to try. Also, you might want to do a search of particular RH's you might be interested in and FM girls who are getting married there. Many people are willing to tell you quotes that they got at particular places.
Good luck and congrats!

Re: Price Quotes Through Email
Welcome and congrats! I found that phone works better than e mail... e mail takes them a while to get back to.. (at least it seems) where the phone, they were more likely to give me more information.... I could try by the phone... or if you really want specifics.. you can ask around here.... as I know many of us have received NUMEROUS quotes
