my alvina valenta was 2600. a friend of mine paid 5000 for her AV, which was style AV9607. i think it really ranges. But I'm not sure about jim hjelm
My alvina valenta was 3k not including alterations. I think Jim Hjelm may be in the same range because it is manufactured by the same company.
my JH was 2400 plus tax and alterations
Most are over $200. Some of the AV dresses are around $260 and that's not including the extra $40 for 'plus size' which is 16 and up. They are sized much smaller then street size, ex. a size 4 street size could be a size 10 depending on the style.
My girls wore Alvina Valenta. They were I think around $250 plus alterations. And yes, there was an extra $50 charge for my larger BM's dress.
my girls are wearing jim hjelm, priced at about 200. we got ours through netbride.com for 161.

BTW It seems that Alvina Valenta are more exclusive and can't be bought on any internet website so It's kinda hard to find them at a discounted price. Jim Helm are more available.
my girls bought their jim hjelm dresses at rk bridal with their no frills program for under $200.
Check out Pearl's Place. My girls wore a Jim Hjelm dress that was retailing for over $225/$250 at most stores - they got it for $158 at Pearl's Place.
