Priest for Ceremony at RH?

Priest for Ceremony at RH?

We are both Catholic and I, personally, do not want a church wedding (long story) I want to be married at the RH. Love to do it outside, weather permitting.

His family is a little more religious then mine and aren't thrilled with the 'No Church' thing. So I wanted to know if anyone knows of a Priest who will marry off-site. My sister did this about 19 years ago. I've been asking people and nobody can give me any names. They say Priests won't marry outside the church (with this I can get into my long story about my feelings for the catholic church, but wont).

Thanks
Phyllis

a Catholic priest will not marry you outside of a church. The catholic church's view of it (right or wrong) is that marriage is a sacrament and must be performed in a church.

There are 'american' catholic priests who are not affiliated with a church that will do a ceremony for you outside of the church. However, your marriage will not be recognized by the catholic church.

Ditto the above, I always heard a Catholic priest will not marry you outside of the chruch. You could always get a christian minister to do it, but again, it wouldn't be recognized by the Catholic church. Depends where your priorities lie.

I just asked our priest this the other day. Although we are not doing that, I was curious. He said that they are not allowed to marry anyone outside of a church, like ata a reception hall.

We had a reformed Catholic priest marry us at our RH. He allows you to choose how religious you want it.

We both wanted a Catholic officiant as well, but didn't want a church wedding. We got married on the beach in FL in November by a retired Catholic priest, and it was WONDERFUL. He made it so special.
Oddly-we found him on a website called...www.rentapriest.com!

You have to get special dispensation for it, but it can be done. We are having an interfaith wedding and both a priest and rabbie will be officiating at the RH. And the catholic church will still recognize our marriage. I find it hard to believe that a priest will marry a jewish girl to a catholic guy outside of the church but not 2 catholic people.

FM me if you want details on the priest.

interfaith weddings can obtain an dispensation easily! and the wedding will be recognized in the churth.

personally I think it's CRAP. I am having the same issue with catholic church and we have decided to NOT do it in church and want to do it outside at RH. I have learned that with two catholics this is a big no no...to me its crap that the rules won't bend for two catholics. I am livid about it.

Being that I am Jewish and my FH is Catholic, I inquired about this. It ALL depends on the priest. If you search around you will find one that will marry you. Each church and priest have their own rules. A retired priest can always do it but if you want it recognized by the Catholic church then you need a practicing priest. Just ask around, eventually you will find one.

Thank you everyone for all of your help. I will def. look around at different churches and ask.
The whole church thing really gets to me sometimes. This is just one of the many reasons I don't want to begin my 'family' in a church. I want to feel free and like we have the whole world ahead of us. No rules, just us.

Thanks again ladies!
