Priest problem

Priest problem

My FH didn't even want to get married in church, although he has been baptized...but it was a must for me. He agreed, and then was happy that a priest that he knows through his volunteer fire dept. is from my church and could do our ceremony. So, great, at least something he's happy about - BUT the man is from Poland and speaks with the thickest accent. He did my grandfathers funeral a short time ago (after we got him for the wedding) and I couldn't understand a thing! I 'm wondering, do you think I could ask him for a copy of his gospel, and have the whole ceremony written in the program for people to follow along so they can at least get the gist of what he is saying?? what do you think??

I'm not so much concerned with the mass as with the homily (is that what it's called, the part where they talk after the gospel) where he will be saying things specific to our wedding and us. I just wonder if it's outrageous for someone to ask a priest for a copy of this...probably....

thanks, I guess there is no harm in asking him anyway, hopefully without insulting him. During the funeral, he read something that my mom had wrote, and even though I had read it the night before I was still lost! thanks for the response.!

I think the homily is a pretty spontaneous thing for a priest. Of course he sort of knows what he is going to say but I don't he has it mapped out word for word. Even if he agrees to give you a copy, he won't be reading from the script and it might just further confuse people.

Homilies are usually only a few minutes so if people really can't understand a word - its only for a short while.

My Brother got married in a Greek Orthodox church. MY Sister in Law explained the WHOLE ceremony in the booklet. So us Irish Catholics could understand. As for the Homily I think your jut going to have to cross your fingers on that!!
