Priest willing to..

Priest willing to..

Can anyone recommend a priest willing to do an outdoor wedding? Not just anyone, someone who can do a nice ceremony.

I'm not catholic so I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that priests aren't allowed to perform ceremonies outside of the church. :/

Unfortunately I can't recommend one, but it is possible to find a priest that will marry you outside of a church ~ my parents were married by a priest and a rabbi and it was not in a church. Your marriage however, may not be 'recognized' by the church.

I'm having an interfaith wedding and just met with my pastor about this. He said the only way the Catholic Church will recognize a wedding that takes place outside of a Church is in the case of interfaith marriages due to possible family sensitivities.

Maybe try a deacon? Are they covered under the same regulations as a priest? I know a priest won't marry us in a Catholic Church bc I do not want to have a full mass so we have Deacon Pat!

i wish i had gotten his name, but you need to be really careful about this. when we were at pre-cana, another couple was getting married by a 'catholic priest' at their reception hall. the priest at pre-cana knew who this man was and said he's been frauding couples for years. he is not a catholic priest and his marriages are not recognized by the church. best thing to do is maybe talk to a priest at a parish your comfortable in and see what they have to weigh in on this matter. be really careful!!

Exactly. There are several 'priests' out there who will do your wedding outside of the church's regulations but then your wedding will NOT be recognized. it's absolutely best to go through your church.

Rules state that you can't get married outside of the church except in the case of an interfaith wedding, and even then you must get special dispensation. Talk to the priest about your specific situation, but if the reason is that you just think the hall is a nicer venue, prepare to be turned down.

I agree with above and definitely coordinating with your parish on the proper steps is best and safest

Was it Father Robert Allman? I've read awful things on this forum about him.

Your best bet is to contact your church and speak to them about it. I've heard of priests who have done weddings outside the church that were not necessarily interfaith, but it's not recognized in the church as a valid marriage.

We have a family friend who is a Catholic Priest, we asked him to marry us at our venue. He is unable to marry anyone outside the church.

I will definitely have to speak to my church after these stories. Thank you!

Msgr. Lisante from Our Lady of Lourdes did ours. We had to get married a few days before at the church in a private ceremony, but no one knew. He did an amazing ceremony at our venue!!!!!

LOVE HIM!!! he was the priest who did our pre-cana - the one who knew about this other 'catholic priest.'
we wish we couldve gotten Msgr for our wedding but he was going to be out of town that weekend. MAJOR bummer!

I have to agree with the above ladies. My grandpa is the deacon who married us, and he (along with other deacons and priests) cannot marry a couple outdoors. He was telling us that a few weeks ago a couple came in to baptize their child. My grandpa did all the pre-baptismal info with them and one of the questions is something to the extent of 'Where and by whom were you married' and 'Was this a catholic marriage.' The couple answered yes to being in a catholic marriage and said they were married in the Bahamas by Father 'Whoever.' My grandpa told them that unfortunately they are considered legally marriage, but not through the eyes of the Catholic church. This couple was devastated! My grandpa felt so bad but he had to tell them the truth. Now they're going to renew their vows in the Catholic Church. Just be careful. Outdoors and the CC just do not mix!

We had an outside ceremony, used Rev David Grainson (former priest) and a vendor on here, and LOVED our ceremony. Good luck!

We used Father David as well and he was great. He used to be a catholic priest and the ceremony was lovely.
