Printing your own envelopes

Printing your own envelopes

For those of you who printed you own envelopes, did you use a laser or an ink jet printer? If you had lined envelopes, was there any problem?
Thanks

Re: Printing your own envelopes

I printed my own on a laser printer (at work on the weekends). I didn't have a lining but the envelopes were quite thick - but I didn't have a problem.

The place where I got the invites gave me 25 extra outer envelopes so I got to test some first.

I used a very small amount of tape to close the back flap so it didn't get stuck in the printer. Then I took off the tape and covered that spot with a foil (wedding seal/sticker).

I did on my inkjet printer. No problems at all. What you do need is to have plenty of extra just in case.

When printing envelopes the fold part of the envelope should be facing down so the envelope is closed and being basically upside down so the flap doesn't get pushed up as it is printing.

If your envelopes are lined you should only print on a inkjet since you are unsure how the lining of the paper will react to the heat of a laser. (unless you find out from teh manufacturer if its heat/laser safe).

I tried printing my rsvp envelopes on an inkjet but they kept getting stuck in the printer or there was ink smudges. I ended up just going to staples and bought a bunch of the clear stick on labels that worked really well. I think we'll end up using them on the invite envelopes too because it is quick and easy.

I used my home ink jet the only problem I had was getting it set up to print in the correct place on the envelope... but I cut paper the size of the envelope and used it so i didn't waste any of my envelopes.

I recommend sending your envelopes to inkspun.com They charge only like .39 an envelope and have it done in 48 hours. It beats fighting with printers.
