this is only 'probably' NWR since I would use this type of manicure at the wedding but also well beforehand!
Does anyone know anything about a gel manicure? Is it damaging over a long period of time? Is it common? Thanks! Also if anyone knows- are most nail salons open on Sundays? (I need my nails done for monday and don't know my place's hours!!)

Re: probably NWR- Gel manicure
OK so I used to get Gel Manicures all the time...at first they were fab! and it lasted for like 2 weeks. My nails got long soooo quick and I loved it...but then they start to get real thick and you have to take it off...thats when problems start...its hard to get that Fabulousness back! Plus it kind of does eat away at your nails...not as bad as tips tho...get Sally Hanson Hard As Nails...its much better...Hope this helps...PS where are you looking to go for nails?

Thanks for the rec! I just think the fake stuff looks so much more substantial. My nails tend to chip/peel and I haven't had much luck w/ nail hardeners yet (right now using naitique #2)
I get them done at a few diff places, I have a rotation, they are all around valley stream and lynbrook

There is a place on Village Ave in Rockville Centre that my friends went to and loved it but I am not sure the name or their hours...but I heard they were good...Nail hardeners didnt work for me either until recently...but if you are looking to keep ur manicure long...gel is perfect

I can go on forever w/ questions and comments about the gel manicure because I like to know all the details of this stuff lol.... but how long do they last from the time u get the full set? You said they get thick but would they last at least 6 months? Also how often would I go between manicures like 2 weeks?
If I have relatively healthy nails, is doing this a bad decision? See, I told u I can go on forever w/ these things.....
Ohhh and thank you for the salon rec!!

OK...its just glue and the gel stuff so they can last a decent amount of time...I would say like 3 months depending on how often you go for a manicure...I think most of the time I made it to 2 weeks...if you have healthy nails...dont do it

Gel nails though look good they damage your nails. If you are looking to get them done try City Nail in East Rockaway (Atlantic Ave across from Astoria Federal).
If you have relative healthy nails I would suggest weekly manicures. I used to go to Sunny Nail on Atlantic Ave in Lynbrook when I Lived there. Ask for Choi (she is the owner). She give a good manicure and inexpensive. M-W you can get a mani/pedi for $18.
The place someone recommended in RVC is really good too. They used to be open on Sunday -- not sure if they still are.

I used to do gel, arcrylic and silk...I have finally quiet. I am natural for about a year and my nails are just getting back to normal...I would try not putting anything on...Stay natural

$18 for a mani/pedi?!?!?! That sounds unbelievable, I pay through the roof for my trips to the salon!! Thanks, I'll have to check that out!

It is only Mon-Wed but still. I pay through the roof now too so I only go every few weeks -- I miss my $8 manicures.
