I wear gel nails, and I banged one pretty bad about a month ago, and I notice the nail was lifting only a bit..so, now a month later, and it's lifting even more..I'm freaking out.
My nail salon gave me this homeopathic Tea Tree Oil or something. I'm calling my dermatologist to see if this is now a fungus and to have her treat it, but you know how long the wait is for a dermatologist.
Anyone have a words of advice, or similar experiences? I'm totally scared !

Re: Problem with nail 'lifting'...
I was tired of the acrylic nails because they would grow out and then my nail would start to curl up underneath and I would be afraid of getting fungus. I don't use acrylic nails anymore. I just have the girl put the powder on top of my real nails now so that can't happen.

THey're not acrylic, they're gel...which are much better than the acrylic. However, I may take them off after this incident!!! What kind of powder does she use?

She uses the fill in powder she would normally use on acrylic nails when they grow out. I like it much better. It looks nice and I don't have to worry about water getting in there.

Re: Problem with nail 'lifting'...
My nail lifted, I had my nail gilr keep putting a nail on and...lets put it this way...it came off...the whole nail. I had to leave the nail off for almost 2 months until it grew back and she was able to put a nail on. Be careful.

Is there any possible way to save this nail? It hasn't lifted all the way yet. Did anyone go to a Dermatologist? If so, what did they do?

I never had this happen but you could ask your doctor. You don't want to make it any worse than it is.

I actually had the same thing happen with my toe. I stubbed it and the nail started to lift. I went to my derm. and he gave me an anit-fungal med. and I had to wait until it grew out. It really stinks but it really took faster than I thought to grow out.

I use the Gels also and love them. If I were you I would take the Gel off the nail and cut it down. This way it can breath. If water gets stuck betweent he nail and the Gel and it doesn't dry off well you can get fungus.
