Constant Drama! OK so here is the story... I have an aunt with 7 children ranging from 16yrs to 2yrs. Well at the wedding I am trying to make EVERYONE happy by allowing some children. But I don't want kids under 10yrs old... so how do I tell my aunt she can bring 3 out of 7 kids.... did I mention she would be coming here from Florida? This has become a family drama now!

Re: Problems w/ Family Guest List!!
I have been so torn about whether or not to allow kids. I adore my younger cousins and would love to have them, but there would 25 of them (mostly my family) mostly under 10. My wedding won't end till 1:30 and it think it is just too late for them all plus even with 1/2 of kids and under 6 free, it would be too expensive and jsut tooo many.
Explain to your aunt that you are allowing children over the age of 10 only. Many people set age limits. If she has a problem she is going t have to work it out. It is your day. You shouldn't have to compromise any more than you want to.

We also have a lot of kids, but we decided that the ONLY children invited to the wedding are our OWN nieces and nephews. Now in my case, my FH has 6 nieces and nephews, but I have none on my side. We thought it would only be fair. Remember this is YOUR day and do what makes YOU happy. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to make everyone happy.

Re: Problems w/ Family Guest List!!
We also had family coming from Florida, and we said no kids under 5. That was pushing it, but we did it to appease DH's aunt. However, on each side of the family, there were cousins who had kids under 5. In most cases there was one sibling over 5 and one under. We helped our cousins find baby sitters for them. Two of them stayed at DH's aunt's home with the babysitter during the wedding, and the other two stayed at the hotel with another baby sitter. However, we included the kids in all the pre and post wedding festivites, such at the brunch the day after.

I don't know what advice to give. We decided to allow all children, because they're our family too and we didn't want to cause drama.

Re: Problems w/ Family Guest List!!
We decide NO kids. 18 and over only. Our guest list is way too big anyway. Plus I can't imagine having kids running around the whole night.
I was just a christening where there were tons of kids and it was out of control!

Re: Problems w/ Family Guest List!!
JMO- if you invite one child you invite them all, irregardless of age. To not is just asking for 'trouble'....
I have two first cousins that are under age 5 (Dad's bro had children 'late')...some of the ages of my other cousin's children. And they wouldn't understand if my young cousins were invited and not theirs..silly, yes...but decided to cut the drama and invite no kids or infants..which somehow one of FI's groomsmens wives thought it would be appropriate to bring their newborn the reception. We nipped that in the bud right away.

Re: Problems w/ Family Guest List!!
I have posted about this before- it was my old drama!!!
First let me mention that I am very close to my own cousins, and I am a teacher, so I love kids BUT, I didn't want them running around my wedding reception. Also, all the kids in question will be coming from out of state. I was going to do the split thing too, but the same thing happened- I would be splitting up families, which I thought was worse than not inviting them at all.
So, since my dad is helping with the reception, he became the bad guy and told my cousins from florida they couldn't bring their children, and my cousins from MI couldn't bring their three children. We only have the kids going that are IN the bridal party, this way even my local cousins with kids will not be offended that their kids weren't invited.
This was hard to go over at first, BUT when I think back, ALL of these cousins didn't invite my younger brother and sister to their weddings, so since they had no kids at theirs, I am sure they understand.
This was the biggest headache I have had so far with the wedding, but I am glad we made a decision, stuck to it, and have moved on.
oh- we also hired a baby sitter to watch kids from out of town for free for our guests- it is my cousins best friend. I am going to get them pizza and they are going to stay in a suite at the nearby (within five min) hotel.
