Problems with Dress

Hi. I have a big problem. I ordered my wedding dress in November for my June wedding. They took my measurements and wrote down the appropriate size-14. I went for the first fitting tonight and I was completely astounded when the lady brought the dress out. Instead of ordering my size 14, they ordered a 4. I almost passed out with horror. After apologizing, they suggested that the dress could be enlarged by adding extra panels, adjusting the bodice, and side seams. I was mortified. However, this will change the style of the original dress. My only other option is to rush order a new size 14 which will be an additional charge and will only arrive a week before the wedding! She had the nerve to tell me that they double check all orders, that I must have been a size 4 at the time and that I must have gained some weight without realizing!! How could someone a size 4 change to a size 14 in 5 months without noticing! I am very hurt and extremely disgusted! I have not decided what to do yet. At this point I just want to take my business elsewhere! Please provide suggestions and help me through this nightmare!

Check your receipt. Did they write your size on there? Did they write size 4 or 14 on there? Don`t let them enlarge the 4 to a 14, I can`t imagine that would look right. They should pay for the rush delivery since it seems pretty clear someone there made the mistake of ordering 4 instead of 14.

Problems with Dress

I looked for the receipt when I came home tonight but I can`t seem to find it. My apartment is such a mess because I just moved in a month ago. My mother is so angry with me and says I am so careless and disorganized. I am so upset and disgusted. I either need to drop 65 lbs. in 2 and 1/2 months or demand that a new dress is rush delivered immediately! I have had a weight problem my entire life and the stress of all this is not helping either! It`s now 2:30 in the morning and here I am on the computer eating a Stouffer`s Lasagna and cocktail franks!! I just can`t help myself!! I am sorry to trouble you but I am so sick to my stomach and I do not know how to handle this catastrophe!!! What can I do to prove it isn`t my fault!! PLEASE HELP!!

Problems with Dress

Hmmm, what if you were to prove that you were always that size and there was no way that you suddenly dropped from a size 14 to a size 4 and then suddenly back up to a 14 again??? I am thinking if you have been to a DR in the recent year or anything that actually has your weight or something documented. A fitness place?? Do you remember who measured you? I would also have to say that it is pretty hard to gain 65 lbs in a 5 month period.... I honestly think that they know they made the mistake however they are trying to make it your fault. Don't let them get away with it. Demand to speak with the owner, the actual owner of the store and convey to him how angry you are and threaten calling BBB to see if you can do anything. Most owners hate to hear something like that specially if they care about business! They should definitely pay for a rush delivery, that is for sure!! Good luck! Nancy

Ellen, You need to see the chart they have for you..it usually lists the measurments they took, which gives them the size range they order for you. IMO opinion they messed up, I would ask to speak to the manager or owner of the store and tell them that THEY ordered the wrong size and it is THEIR responsibility to rush order it. Good luck

It's absurd that this place would claim that you must've been a 4 and now you're a 14... What are the rest of your clothes? I would go in there and basically tell them it is unacceptable, talk to the owner, and cause a scene if you have to. Please let us know what store this is so that we all have a warning... Good Luck and don't let them get away with it.

Problems with Dress To Ellen

You have to make them pay for the rush... and please don't be upset about your weight (it is so not important) this is such a nice time in your life please try and enjoy it. You will see everything will work out. My sister had a simular experience (but it was her not the store) she ordered her dress a size smaller b/c she wanted to lose weight - well when the dress came in it didn't fit her at all - they had to open the whole dress - anyway the point of the story - it all worked out!! Don't stress - you will be all ready for your June wedding!! Another June Bride

I understand if you don't want to expose this store, but I am dying to know who could have made a mistake like that. Make them pay for the rush delivery, call the maker and see if it actually does take as long as they are saying.

Problems with Dress To Ellen

More options... You could try calling the manufacturer directly with your problem. I recall an instance where the store closed suddenly, leaving several brides in the lurch, and one girl mentioned how the manufacturer rushed a dress to her without the extra charges, and even discounted in her case, since she'd lost the deposit. Try calling the manufacturer to see if they work with another store in the area and can help you through them. Also, did you pay by credit card? Call the CC company and inform them of the failure to deliver the goods ordered and demand a refund. And if you have a friend or a family member that is an attorney, try to have a letter written on their letterhead demanding a copy of the original measurements (I know I had to sign something stating the sizes - although beware, they may fake something - do you remember having to sign that the sizing was right?) And try like he** to find your original reciept. If you have that, you could take them to small claims court to get your money back. Good luck!!! and please, mention the store to forewarn others about their shoddy service. They may have made an honest mistake, but there is no excuse for trying to say you gained all that weight and that the problem is yours. Being off a size or two might be explained by a weight gain, but going from a 4 to a 14 is unreal.

Ellen, threatening lawsuit and reporting to the BBB usually works. If this doesn't then this establishment is completely unethical and most certainly SHOULD be reported and further action sought. What is the establishment name?

Problems with Dress

Ellen - I just had my final fitting and mentioned your story to the shop owner here in MA where I live. Even she said there was no way some would change 5 entire sizes that quickly, and was on your side, agreeing that the shop had made a mistake. It doesn't help your immediate situation, but hopefully knowing that even another shop owner supports your point of view will make you feel more empowered.

Remember your the customer

Wow I can’t believe your story don’t worry it will work out one way or another, first thing get your paperwork. This way you will be able to know what really happened even if they originally wrote down four by accident, they are still at fault and should not make you feel the way you do. My stomach is sick thinking of them trying to do this to you. I am in the customer service business and know first hand how powerful word of mouth is. This board is wonderful because we are sharing our good and bad experiences with each other and it is very powerful. If you notice how many people read your story, and if you post the name of the store that many brides will know to stay away, that is good because it will seriously hurt their business. I am so mad, I hate when people get ripped off and essentially this is what is happening to you. I really think you should post the name so they can’t do this ever again and more than that so you can hurt their business. This is a very important time for you and it doesn’t matter who is wrong you are the customer and they should be jumping through hoops to please you. Please keep us informed. Good Luck!!

Thank you for all your support!

The store owner called me today and apologized immensely for the mishap. She explained to me that there have been problems in the past with the sales associate that assisted me. I said that is no excuse and I should not have been treating so poorly! She apologized again and informed me that the sales associate will longer be affiliated with their establishment. I took your advice and asked her to review the original measurement in her records, and yes indeed, they matched to a perfect size 14 not 4. She is going to rush order a new dress for me in the correct size 14. She is going to cover the extra cost and I will also receive a generous 30% off of the total price of the dress!! I feel so much better now!! Although the amount of food I so enjoyingly inhaled today could very well likely make the Guiness Book of World Records (blame it on the stress) I feel like 100lbs have been lifted off my shoulders. I understand your concern about knowing the name of the shop, but since everything has been resolved, I think it is inapproppriate to reveal the name of the boutique. I promise to keep you all informed and if things don`t work out their name will be plastered all over this board. I have been a silent viewer of this site for some time and just to reassure you, I have yet to see the any posts about this store.

I'm glad it's all working out for you. An ounce of restraint went a long way for you today in not dragging their name through the mud. I admire that. An extra 30% off...not bad, although I'm sure the stress was not such a great trade off. Have a relaxing evening!
